I'm amazed there is no thread yet about these fabulous new handsets, so I thought it was time to start one.
I've had a sexy Nokia 700 for 2 weeks now, and I'm thoroughly delighted. Apart from the ususal high quality build of Nokia devices, the Nokie Belle software is excellent.
My only minor gripe is that the battery only gives me one day of use, but I don't think it's a big deal having to put my handset on the charger before I go to sleep each night.
Does anybody else have one of these fine handsets?

I have been thinking of getting the 701, for imported phones the prices are pretty good for that hardware.
I been looking at the 701 myself after a bad experience with my 3 HTC Titans in 30 days which I have a thread on elsewhere.
Anyway I thought Nokia was going to stop Symbian and go with WP7 with the Lumina 800/900 so forth
My question is this the last horay for Symbian phones? I really liked the Titan but it had some issues all three of them the same issues but the apps I had like Netflix and having Intuit app to take credit cards was nice and I dont know if the 701 has that?
Please advise.

I don't think Symbian will stop, it will stop in the US but not worldwide, they will just change the name of it in the rest of the world. For instance they are going to stop to use Symbian Belle and just call it Belle and then next upgrade will be called something else. The drawback with a Symbian or a Belle phone is that they are somewhat lacking when it comes to at least apps made by US companies so I am pretty sure there won't be any Netflix or Intuit apps. The benefits are that they usually have very solid hardware and you can get a regular data plan for 15 unlimited (10 is you have a family plan) so you save quite a bit on your phone bill, the new Belle is a very decent software. I have a N8 and it's the best phone I have ever had, I also have an Android tablet but I am not yet sold on the OS.
I have a Nokia 5800 can some of the apps I purchased for that phone work in the 701 if I reinstall them? For example I have JoikuSpot, Profimail (although I might be willing to get better email software), VNC+ to name a few. Is the new Belle backward compatible to the S60?

Not completely compatible.
The email app in Belle is pretty good, I haven't missed profimail much.
Joikuspot will need an upgrade, Belle has problems with the old version.
Some things work, some don't.
If you wander through the forum at DailyMobile you will probably find more reports about what works on Belle.
The OVI store limited app re-install policy is probably the most annoying thing to those familiar with Android and iOS.
Re-buying apps isn't going to make Nokia's new customers happy.

Nokia have publicly announced they will continue to support Symbian at least until 2016, but I hope they will keep it alive for much longer. As far as I'm concerned, nothing is quite as simple or intuitive as Symbian.
Five years is a long, long time in the electronics world, and nobody knows for sure what will happen.
As far as the 700/701 go, the former is considerably sexier, but the latter has a slightly bigger screen and a higher resolution camera. For me though, the compact size of the 700 was the clincher. You really need to go to a shop and touchy-feely both models to see which one suits you best.
For those looking for apps, the Nokia store has Joiku and other items suitable for Nokia Belle software.
That's funny, I was looking at the 700, 701 and the C7 a few days ago. They look like really solid phones and I guess my only gripe is that Nokia stuck those phones with fixed focus cameras. Although, the photos look decent for FF, I haven't had a FF camera since before my old SE W810, lol. I looked at the Lumia 710 but the reviews on that phone's camera aren't too great either (nothing that a bug fix update will fix). I ended up buying a Sensation for about the same price but might sell it (probably at a loss, oh well) depending on Nokia's next phone/camera flagship.
Don't worry about the one day's worth of use. It seems that all smartphones nowadays get about 1 day of solid use. It's unfortunate, but they'll get better. Definitely keep us in the loop with your opinion on it after having it for some time!
Does the 701 have a forward facing camera? if so does skype utilize it?
I been reading when the N8 gets the Belle upgrade it may turn out to be a better phone than the 701? Any thoughts to that?
Yes, but I have the 700, which does not have a forward facing camera, eventhough some of images of the white model show two sensors next to the earpiece (one is a proximity sensor, and the other is a ambient light sensor).
I have a black/grey 700, and only one sensor is clearly visible, but the other one is definitely there.
The really cool thing is that when you answer an incoming call, the proximity sensor dims the screen so that you cannot inadvertently activate any of the icons with the side of your face. If you need to do something such as touch a key on the number pad during a call, when you move the handset away from your face, the screen returns to normal.
Another really cool thing which none of the reviewers mentions is that the Portrait keyboard is user-selectable between QWERTY and the 9 key Alpha-Numeric. I use the latter, because I have big fingers and I actually type faster in a-n mode but, when you rotate the handset to Landscape, it automatically goes to QWERTY.
I was thinking about purchasing a 701 because of the new software [Belle] and frankly because every so often I get the urge for a new phone. I currently have the N8 which is a great handset and does EVERYTHING I need a phone for me to do.
Why I didn't go forth and purchase a 701 though was due to its fixed focus camera and that's basically the only reason and because it utilizes LED and not xenon. I'm waiting for a successor to the N8 I guess.
Too knowing that our N8s should be getting the Belle update in Feb? [I know probably not] I feel that I’ll be able to live with my N8 even longer. The only thing is our N8s have older processors now and don't have the 1 GHz these new Nokias are coming out with.
So I’ll be living with my N8 for a while longer till Nokia produces its successor, no complaints though.
I never thought I would be able to flash my Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition phone with firmware but it seems so easy. I tried a couple different versions one that is C6 and now I have another one that is Symbian Anna 7.5 that seems nice. It sort of brought new life to my phone. Still the CPU and the data radio is no where close to the 701 but I get to experience Anna till I finally decide on the 701.

I dont think anyone asked you but how is the call voice quality when you put phone to ear and speakphone? How is the clarity of your voice to the caller that you are talking to? Landline and Cell phone.
These are fundimentals that are always overlooked in reviews because after all its a phone.
Oh yea is there any Symbian software simulair to Board Express on a Windows Phone? It be nice to track this forum on the phone.

The Noise Cancellation on the Nokia 700 seems to be working fine, because my callers report they can hear me very clearly, on their landlines and mobiles, even when I'm in a fairly noisy room.
I don't know about any apps like Board Express or Tapatalk for Nokia Belle.
