First Day Experiance - Blackberry absolutely worst device ever created -
I have been given a Blackberry 9360 for work today.
Just a little history, I had a Motorola V120, Nokia 8800, Nokia S60, Motorola Razor, Nokia N92, Iphone 3G, Google Nexus, Iphone 3GS, Iphone 4.
I've experienced everything but the new windows mobile.
I have never felt such an urge to put a device under my car and drive over it a few times.
First thing, after bootup and pain staking annoying keyboard adding in all my information.
Reboot the device, log into BBM and I get the following error
"Enter the username associated with this smartphone blackberry"
I've searched and called support and only thing I got was in OS7 you must put your original screen name. ?!?! What?!? I just created an account. I deleted it using the email link and recreated, FAIL. I had to delete it, do a blackberry wipe then create a completely new id.
Once booted, i decided not to do the same mistake and install the apps first.
It's taking me about 30 minutes to download and upgrade Facebook, Blackberry messenger and Google Talk. (The phone has gotten uncomfortably hot within 30min)
It's also VERY laggy and it can't download while installing one of the apps!?!?!
Are you kidding me?!?
FAIL
I can't wait to find an excuse to switch to any other device. The FAKE Iphone from China with Java based OS was faster and better than this... this is a complete joke.
Sorry guys but I have to rant. You guys really need to try another device for a week, ANYTHING. I know you would never look back.
Blackberry, seriously you got to fire all your programs, every single one, and write a new OS. The device itself is VERY sold and very high quality but the OS itself...is a disaster
humm, i just went back to my 9780 from my iPhone, and i love it.
It's all personal preference i guess, i've never had the issues you had and i surely hope that you would not base your opinion on Blackberry off of that, i mean my iPhone did crash a few times where i had to restore with iTunes, but i still think it's an okay device.
i do still have an Android phone i carry for work, but i still find myself using the blackberry more

Right. I'm the one who is dramatic.
Truthfully, the 9360 is the lower end version as far as Blackberry goes. And we bought a bunch on those for work, and I agree they are not good phones.
The 7.0 OS on other ones I've used has been terrific. I had to manually update the OS on all the 9360s we had and I haven't had complaints since.
It works but i find it more of an organizer than a smartphone.
I could of gotten the bold but I couldn't use the keyboard, so I decided to stick with the curve.
What applications do you recommend I get?
I am going to give it a chance.

I have to double and triple check the dates as the apps look very dated.
that's funny that you could not use the Bold keyboard, it's much better than the curve, and the touchscreen makes it all around a much better choice. everyone i've talked too thinks the bold keyboard is much better than the curve (too tiny and weird spacing)
You want a high end experience, go with the Bold. The Curve is the low end phone, not as much memory, and the processor isn't as fast. Funny that you said you couldn't use the Bold keyboard, it's a much better keyboard with bigger keys. Any new phone fresh out of the box is going to need some sort of software upgrading the first time you start it, there's always a newer version, same with apps. You want better performance, the apps get upgraded, there's no way around it. Don't b*tch about something when you've only used it for a day, it always takes time to get used to the way something works.
Let's narrow down the apps by what you need your phone to do.
I currently use:
BerryWeather (paid weather app)
BerryBuzz (paid LED control app)
Shazam (paid song ID app - was free in app world but is now pay)
Twitter - free Twitter app
Facebook - free Facebook app
QuickLaunch (paid customization app)
foursquare - free check in app
Advanced Call and LED Control - free call and LED control app
Google Sync - free sync app that lets me sync my contacts and calendar with a Google account
Your needs may vary, so if you can post up what it is that you want, someone I am sure can help you find some great apps.
Wirelessly posted (WhiteBerry Bold 9780: Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9780; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.8+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0.0.706 Mobile Safari/534.8+)
There's always been a lot of love for the Bold keyboard, but I personally always preferred the Curve keyboard. I had a hard time going from my 8330 to my 9630. But every BB I've owned since the 8330 has had a Bold style keyboard, so I'm used it now (9630, 9700, 9800, 9780). I used to like the spaces between the keys. I'm not sure if I'd like going back now though.
Hellllllloooooo!? What did you expect from a curve 9360!!!! The curves have always been lower end! OS7 on the bold 9900 rocks!!!!! I've been using the bold 9900 from an OS6 Torch 9800 and the bold is night and day In the way the OS runs on the device!
What do you think of the 9790 keyboard? I like the fact that 9790 has auto focus camera and a bigger battery. Slower processor 1Ghz vs 1.2Ghz.
I'll go the store and try the 9900
If you are stuck with the BlackBerry, the 9900 is the cream of the crop -- that's the one you want to be stuck with. The 9900 is fast and smooth in comparision.
If you upgrade to the leaked OS 7.1, you can use the Mobile Hot Spot feature, which turns your BlackBerry into a WiFi hotspot. Very nice to share with your WiFi-only iPod/iPad or tablet, laptop, etc. (I have an iPod, it's a much better app/gaming device, but I hate touch screen keyboards)
I am rooting for RIM to survive, I really hope their new QNX phones (coming in a year) are good. The 9360 is crap compared to the current crop of smartphones.
I have a 9360 and I find it to be the best blackberry I've used to date (I've had the Curve 8900, Curve 9300, Bold 9000, Bold 9780 and Torch 9800). Granted I have not used the Bold 9900 or any other current OS7 devices but my experience has been great! The specs on the phone are practically better than all other previous blackberries running OS6 or less. It may be the low-end of OS7 devices but once upgraded to OS7.0.0.594 the phone functions incredibly smooth and the battery actually lasts longer than when I first got the phone. I've also debated to switch over to Android or Iphone but for now I'll stick to RIM. I'll make up my mind once the BB10 devices are available later this year.
My Plan
200 mins + 250 bonus mins = 450 mins + eve/wkds from 6pm + 6 GB data + Value Pack (CID/VM/2500 texts) + R2R + 100 Cdn Long distance mins + GRFF - credits = $39.35 before taxes
