Leap Year Special - 1GB Data on $55 Plan - Limited time....
Sorry if this has been posted before. Just came to my attention...
"Leap Year Special" customer promotion which will start January 18th and run through February 29th
During the promotional period, customers who subscribe to the 55 plan will get DOUBLE the amount of data per month - one full gigabyte rather than 500 megabytes - through the end of 2012! This is a limited time offer - if a customer subscribes to the 55 plan on March 1st or after, they will not receive this special promotion.
The offer will also apply to current customers on the 55 plan. As long as they replenish between January 18th and February 29th, they will get 1 gig of data per month until the end of 2012. Note that to get the promotional deal, they will have to have a continuous subscription to the 55 plan. If there is a plan change or provider change (even if they come back, in either case), the interruption will discontinue the promotion and they will not be able to get it back. ESN and MDN changes will not, however, disrupt the promotion.
And supposedly the data overage rate will be .10/MB for $30, $40, and $55 monthly plans beginning January 18th also. No joy for the Standard Plan, however.
whats the best process to switch to 55 from 1200 TnT? I have a $62 balance I don't want to lose. Is it best to wait until 2/1 when my cycle rolls? I have 90 Mb still

Aw, maaannn... I wish I could justify switching to The 55. I just don't use more than 200 minutes a month and about half that number of texts or less. Why on Earth would anyone go with Verizon postpaid?! Unless, of course, you absolutely need 4G speeds for your job/business.
As for unlimited data... there's the $30 T-Mobile plan, the $35 Virgin Mobile plan, the $40(?) Simple Mobile plan... but I'd have to settle for the inferior Sprint and T-Mobile networks and more dead spots and less places where I can get/make calls and texts.
My sister way paying ~$58/month, IIRC, for unlimited talk 'n text, no data that I can remember, on Northcoast PCS (now Revol) about 7 1/2 years ago.

It will unless you currently have other monthly plan PINs stacked. I have another The12 PIN stacked for renewal on 1/24/12. I can add a The55 plan, but it won't go into effect until 2/23/12ish? I guess I could call PP CS and have them renew my The12 early and throw away the remaining minutes and text I currently have so I can get on The55 sooner?

I've yet to see the press release from PP Corporate with the details but its a bit ridiculous the Standard plans' normal data rate is now 10 times the overage rate for the bucket plans.
With 5+ megapixel cameras on phones becoming commonplace the cost of sending an occasional photo on the standard plan is excessive relative to the rest of their plans.
Page Plus needs to adjust the pay-go data rates so that its more reasonable.
If they can afford to double the data allotment for the 55 plan and drop data overage rates across the board they can afford to drop the pay-go rate
agreed -- really hope we can find some outside confirmation -- the dealer source of this info has a sketchy track record, at best. Although this time, it does sound a little more "thought out" so it very likely is real, outside confirmation would be nice.
Denny, can you confirm any / all of this info by any chance or point us a press release or anything?

As soon as you apply "The 55" pin your account will be upgraded immediately and any previous plan will be lost. So if you were to add a "55" pin right now, your current "The 12" pin would disappear and you would be immediately upgraded. I don't know what happens to your stacked pin though.
I'm willing to make a small gamble that by the end of the year, 1gb will be the standard for that plan. I honestly don't think it is selling as well as they were hoping so increase data, increase data, hope for the best.

That makes sense to me. I'm guessing that they are looking for a group of "testers" to make sure The55 with 1GB doesn't create more trouble than it is worth to them before they make it the permanent offering.
I'm a little disappointed that The12 didn't also get reduced data overage from the current $0.20/MB down to $0.10/MB.
I'm EVEN MORE disappointed that the Standard Plan didn't get a reduced data usage rate. I don't know what would be "fair" for Standard Plan data, but I guess I'm thinking $0.25/MB.

I couldn't agree more. It just doesn't make sense. If PP won't drop the rate for data on the Standard Plan they should at least offer add-on data plans (10MB, 100MB, 500MB, 1GB, etc) like they do with their Power Text add-on plans. I would think it would be a moneymaker for them.
Correct me if I'm mistaken... but doesn't this deal apply to those that sign up for auto-refill? Meaning they'll get your CC info! I don't think buying monthly PINs at other places will work. You need to sign up with your CC info.
Also does the overage rate of $0.10/mb for those on the $30, $40, and $55 monthly plans apply only to those on auto-refill?! Hmmmm.
