    Thumbs up

Its true that apples depreciate less than droids. MY theory is that there are too many droids being released. Theres probably about 4 different types of apple phones. I don't use them, but know about them. With the current market on droids the "newest" released phones will be replaced in a month or two and your stuck wanting to upgrade cause of some new glossy technology you will want. Leaving you feel your ultra nice phone is old technology

I say stick with droid x or a x2. Heck even a droid2 would be nice. Anything that has 1ghz snapdragon processor will last for a long time in the android market. We don't need duo core yet since only few applications even use it. I am talking about games here mostly. GTA would be a good example. Wait a year or two for a duo core. 2012 fewer android devices will be released from what I read on droid-life.

Actually, all they are doing with Android is creating a planned obsolescence frenzy. Iphone vs Android is quality vs quantity plain and simple . PC vendors and microchip makers were doing in the late 90s and early 2000s what they are doing now with non Apple computers, making clock speeds faster and faster to get people to buy the latest and greatest. It's the same old story all over again.

If you want a good cheap smartphone, get an Android and use something like Cyanogen Mod to enable it to update past its max os and keep it fresh for a while longer.

The iphone is the ultimate (in terms of popularity and best selling single device) but that doesn't mean it's for everyone.

There are only five basic versions (2G/OG, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S) vs over 300 Android devices (and counting) so that says something for the quality vs quantity argument, though many Androids are often excellent (and some are real garbage like the Moto Citrus and the generic white label China Droids).

With so many carriers and handset makers running Android, variability is a given .

Ya that sounds about right. Don't forget on android quite a few applications won't work on some and yet others do. Even if something simple like an alarm clock. It's odd, but quality comes into play.

I'd put more emphasis on the "few" part of your statement rather than "quite a few". That's just incorrect. I've had ~8 android devices and have never run into an app that doesn't work.

After going though so many android devices, now when I touch an iphone it feels so dainty like it is a little toy. I'm sure it's a powerful device but it is far too small for my needs. That and I've dropped my phone 4 or more times that would have completely destroyed the iphone 4.

Android is too fractured and poorly supported by handset manufacturers/carriers to surpass iOS in terms of stability and a sustainable upgrade path. It took Verizon 8 months to begin to roll out some Gingerbread updates for their phones and there is no telling if they will ever be updates to ICS for many phones that are technically capable or running it.
If you buy an Android device new then expect maybe one or two supported updates at the most. And those are usually v.X updates not entire leaps to the next OS version. Beyond that its unlikely anything official will be released because there is no financial incentive for VZ or HTC/Moto etc to provide support. Apple tends to be more generous with their continued support for their devices usually providing upgrades up until the hardware can no longer run the newest OS.

I am sure if all you've owned are the flagship Droid devices you've had mostly positive experiences with the phones but for every one of those there's a dozen entry level and lower tier Android phones that are absolute junk.

For the average user, the above is correct. Which is fine, that is what we are talking about anyway.

Will the 1gb of data continue after the end of the year or is this special only for 2012?

Well from what I read. Just about every app I seen. If you looks at the comments/rating of the app you will always see "does not work for ______." I always used the droid x and only ran into about 4 applications not working at all. It would be nice to read comments and not see that every time.

VoIP apps, in particular, tend to be a problem in terms of portability across Android devices.

Im looking at either the Droid X or HTC Incredible on cowboom, yet cant seem to snag one of either before it sells out. Any other websites to find one of these phones at a decent price? I am anxious to get on PPC and try out the 55 so I can finally get away from my America's choice verizon post pay plan for the past 7 years.

I really hope they can keep this going after the year end, or extend it somehow. 1GB is a nice chunk of data.

With data use exploding, I'm sure by the start of next year, the standards on what is acceptable as a data package will have increased and we won't see halfway measures like Air Voice's rather lame and tame 500 meg pack as the top in a line. I would say a gig to five would be standard as a top drawer package. And maybe a two tier between 3g and 4g. We shall see.

I've had great luck buying phones from eBay sellers. It seems to me that you can get the best phones by buying from somebody that is selling their personal phone, as long as you ask lots of pre-purchase questions to be 100% sure of what you're going to get. It can be time-consuming, but it has worked out well for me.

I have bought 3 from Craigslist, and buying local i can inspect and verify good esn, you can sometimes get a better price that way. as in Droid X2 for $110.00 nearly new.
