Lots of places in Texas it seems. No new additions or upgrades to EDGE (not like they announce that anyways) near me. But it is nice to see the coverage map get covered more in darker colors.
Look at texas
Anyone near these areas? Anyone live in these areas?
this is great, im glad for T-Mo their network is their core. I was traveling on 45 from Houston to Dallas and had GPRS in Huntsville about 4 months ago, went thru there few days back & got 3G
Are these brand new coverage areas or just speed upgrades? I thought Modesto, Stockton, and Lubbock already had coverage, and the map didn't look different to me. I'm not sure about the others, I just remember those 3. What's the difference between expanded and new? Some of the cities are under both categories.
And interestingly, if you look at Huntsville, TX at the zoom level of 40 miles and closer, it shows 3G coverage, but if you are 80 miles or zoomed farther out, it still shows 2G. I wonder how many other areas are like that.
most of them are just expanded 21mbps HSPA+, with 42mbps HSPA+ upgraded in some areas.
Also, as for the various zoom levels, dont forget that compass gets bugged up sometimes. The maps with the 3g coverage are accurate. for whatever reason, one of the zoom levels doesnt show 3g coverage at all. Of course the "fast mobile web" 7.2hsdpa and the "very fast mobile web" hspa+ colors are backwards too...

Why is Michigan City, IN on there twice? How is "Expanded 4G market" different from "New 4G HSPA+ 42 Mbps market"
I ask because I live here, and just ordered the Galaxy S2 off the website this morning. I'm actually quite shocked to see my city was upgraded ..to 42Mbps none-the-less. I remember when I had the HTC G2 back around the time it hit the market and I was barely able to get 1Mbps down here.
Also, if the coverage map is right..Westville, IN and LaPorte, IN also got 42Mbps or 21Mbps speed..not sure which, but on the map both towns are covered in the darker red. (Both towns are near Michigan City, IN)
Why is Michigan City, IN on there twice? How is "Expanded 4G market" different from "New 4G HSPA+ 42 Mbps market"
Not 100% on this, but I would wager that if Michigan City previously had 21mbps HSPA+, which then was both upgraded to 42mbps HSPA+ as well as saw 4g coverage increased, then both statements would be true.
T-Mobile is indeed quickly rolling out coverage in many areas. The entire state of florida is pretty much covered, and highways in texas just saw a good increase. Compare the image ja5219 posted to the one I just pulled today.
I-35 from the Red River to San Antonio is all 3g-4g.
I-20 from almost Abilene straight through DFW to Arkansas on I-30 is all 3g-4g now.
Eastern New Mexico (not pictured) just got a really large swathe of 3g.
Dallas to Wichita Falls is completely 3g now.
I-10 from Sealy (east of houston) through Louisiana is all 3g the whole way now.
Expanded coverage on I-45 between Dallas and Houston, as well as south of Longview
3g Coverage for a very substantial length along highway 281 from San Antonio to highway 20. Looks like that area previously had no coverage at all (ie it's now 3g-only coverage)
And more 3g coverage in the panhandle (including areas of more 3g-only service)
Very nice to see T-Mobile improving 3g coverage rapidly.
reuthermonkey, why is 3G and 4G backwards on this map? On a side note it's nice to see the 3G expand out of Saint Louis finally. I felt a lot of this was on hold with the AT&T merger. Now that is over, it's nice to see movement.
No love in Oklahoma, just some blow-off from Texas. Oklahoma is T-Mobile GPRS-EDGE hellAttachment 78837. Excellent overall coverage, but just teensy little bits of 3G and virtually no 4G. Sad.
I could see them adding 3G to your area seeing how you have some roaming areas by you and a few no service spots they might go in and try to cover it up with 3G since they're done with adding 2G it seems
