It could be correct, but I doubt it. Just look at the large differences in Verizon's EVDO and AT&T's HSPA. Sure, rural areas don't count for as much, but AT&T relies on partners so much more than Verizon as it is.
As long as the population % can access medium/dark blue areas.
The point is if AT&T covers 90% of the pop with medium/dark blue and they need 20% of greenfield spectrum to be the same as VZW... Currently with what AT&T has I'm figuring they can cover 72% of the entire pop with LTE.

How do you figure?
AT&T has stated they can roll out LTE to roughly 80% of the population, including both 700mhz and AWS holdings. Some of their AWS holdings are gone now. Is that how you are getting to 72%?
Their current HSPA+ or legacy EDGE footprint is irrelevant, just like Verizon has launched LTE in places they have no legacy network at all.
Verizon Wireless: America's fastest, largest and most reliable mobile broadband network.

Ok thanks I'll take 80% then. As another poster said AT&T needs 20% more greenfield spectrum to equal VZW.
AT&T medium and dark blue areas are relevant because it shows how much of the pop is able to get anything other than edge. Forget about land mass.

Well ya kinda gotta look at it like this: Verizon has the power and the spectrum to roll out to 100% of the lower 48. Will it happen? So AT&T has the power and the spectrum to roll out to ~80%...well less since they lost AWS. Will it happen?

So it is all up in the air right now.
It's evident that TMo is in financial trouble. Dish buys TMo, AT&T buys Dish.
