If you want a linux-based OS laptop, go with system76, zareason, linux certified, or los alamos computer.
If you want a window OS laptop, I can't recommend since I'm window-free for 8+ years. A decade ago,
dell was good - don't know what the standing is now.

Personally I have had bad experiences with Samsung due to hardware faults. Of course everyone will have different findings. I find Dell laptops to be extremely reliable and built like tanks. I also have had good experience with HP.
IMO though, Macbooks Pro or Air are the best laptop. From an ex-diehard windows fan, using this new Mac lion and taking advantage of all its features is a lot of fun and rewarding everytime I use it. It feels like everything just makes much more sense compared to PC.
Hewlett Packard.
I had a Macbook Pro briefly, not sure what the fuss is about. Bottom of it sounded like cheap hollow plastic, speakers were terrible. Missing a few nice touches from older MacBook's. Slow stock harddrive.. superdrive highly prone to failures.

I was always a big PC guy and always never understood mac users. After switching, I realize now the Lion OS is superior in many different ways. It's nice also being able to have bootcamp so I can use Windows for when I need to use it. Everytime I'm in Windows I can't wait to be done what I am doing so I can get back into Mac.
I would have to agree with the Mac users. They are the best laptops out there. I have had many pc laptops before and after I bought my MacBook pro and I always end up coming back to my mac
I don't know what you are planning to use it for so it's hard to say what brand is the best. If you're going to do some media work, then I suggest getting a Mac. If not, Toshiba and Lenovo are great brands to shop for.
Sometime, Choosing the right laptop can be a very hard task. Every people have different opinions. As per my opinion, Apple is the best brand of laptop. Apple takes meticulous care to ensure a quality experience on their machines.
