Verizon LTE panels don't have the LTE radios right behind the panels. See the black boxes behind the Sprint Network Vision panels? That's new tower top radio technology. That's used only on Sprint and AT&T towers.

In regards to the Network Vision photo; are we sure which panels are which? I'd guess WiMax, LTE, CDMA from left to right. WiMax panels here are a little thicker, but really short, and look like the panel on the left. The panel in the middle, if LTE, looks somewhat similar to many Verizon LTE panels. I forget what the Baltimore AT&T LTE panels look like...I'll have to look on my way to DC today if I see any.

Will this site be ready for SMR CDMA? I'd think that would need a new panel, or can they run 1X (PCS), EVDO (PCS) and 1X Adanced (SMR) all on one panel?

The top one, watermarked Google 2007? No.

The second one very well could be. There ARE shorter LTE panels in existence. We have one tower here with short fat LTE panels. I will get a pic soon, but it looks like the panel in your second picture that isn't shark-fin'd.

I think the far left lowest, small panel was WiMax I think the tech was describing but I can't be sure. The middle panel with the radio attached to the back is a new beam forming, MIMO antenna that does CDMA and FDD-LTE according to the tech's. And I was getting blazing speeds on Sprint somehow!

Well from what the technician explained the far left is WiMax, the panel in the middle is supposed to be able to do LTE and CDMA on 1900mhz and the farthest right is another panel capable of both bands of CDMA and uses newer beam forming type of technology to enhanced existing PCS coverage.

And its one fiber back hauled base station that is software defined and not hardware. As much as I hate to say it, this site is MUCH more advanced than any Verizon or AT&T site.

Oh and this site is capable of 1X advanced and will be an ALL IP CORE on even the CDMA side. The call quality down here on Sprint is unbeatable by anyone. Full rate all the way.

Yea, they have pretty much converted all the sites here in the San Antonio, TX. Houston, and also Dallas! Pretty cool, now if they can get this rolling out nationally they can give great value, and maybe even compete with Verizon in some aspects. They are only using 10mhz in all their markets so LTE will be slower, but Sprint has less user's also. They need a long term plan for LTE spectrum.

Verizon here in TX is FANTASTIC, even though its PCS only. Honestly Verizon and Sprint probably have the best networks here. AT&T is decent, but its EDGE when you leave the major metro's. The have LTE here as well.

Lucky you I find Sprint to be a tad less than honorable, based on experience. Lying about native service and then dumping half the state and a good chunk of their home state. They also dumped a good chunk of Texas.

Clearwire. They could eventually deploy something like 3 20x20 LTE channels in most of their markets. That's over 1.3gbps of air interface per tower with current LTE tech, far higher than anyone else. I'm surprised AT&T hasn't signed on with Clearwire yet, it would make things a lot easier for them in major markets.

They have a lot of coverage holes in TX, including a huge one a little southwest of the middle of the state. They don't own CLR there, but I can't believe they haven't been able to get their hands on 10mhz of PCS there somehow?
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

It's really not that bad. A good bit of people here have Verizon and Sprint. I guess if you live out that way you deal with AT&T all edge. Otherwise it's pretty is good in most of the metros.

Sprint is almost all native here so it's not a big deal. A long with network vision they are ok. Verizon is much better though .

Well in OK if you travel more than 5 miles from an interstate now on Sprint, you're screwed!
