Just wanted to know the opinions of the community on which is better/more capable smartphone to use on PP? They both can be found relatively cheap on ebay. Which has more apps?
If HP shuts it down the phone will revert to being 'dumb'
I'm pretty sure nothing major would happen even if HP shut everything down tomorrow. The Pixi would still be a "Smart" phone. The only things that would be gone are the official market, OS updates (which the pixi doesn't get anymore anyway) and backup to HP servers. Everything else should function fine. WebOS has quite a dedicated community which has practically run WebOS for the last year anyway. I don't see that going away anytime soon.
As a former pixi owner I can say that it is a great little device. If you are just looking for a basic smart phone it is quite capable. Most major apps are available but that's about it and most likely you will not see anymore.
I upgraded to an android phone because of the poor app catalog, no updates and somewhat slow speed. A solid android device from last year can be found for under $100. If you really want the full smartphone experience you would probably be better off going with a used android device or even a win phone 7 device.
Well, I wanted a smartphone but did not need a smart-smartphone (if that makes any sense). Wifi/Facebook app was a major requirement of mine and both these phones seem to fit the bill. However in a strange accident I ended up getting both. I had pretty much decided to get the pixi plus and saw a used one listed in Mint condition for 25 dollars and snatch it up. I then saw that the auction for a Omnia 2 was nearing its end and was still pretty low around $15, considering its condition (excellent). I put in a max bid of like $18 dollars, really did not expected to get this, but I ended up winning it anyway. I believe I got good prices on these phones, what do you think?
Also, does anyone have any experience with the Omnia 2? is it a Good phone? It looks decent, at least for the price I paid.

Then the Pixi Plus would probably work for you. I really like mine (although I'm quickly becoming spoiled by the full-on Android experience).
As long as the existing apps are available, it would continue to be a (not-so-smart) smartphone. HP has already shown a lack of common sense though - look at the whole Google Maps vs Bing map fiasco just recently. Current users of WebOS will know what I mean.

The PPP was an ok deal, considering that there were briefly available new for, I think, $30 delivered, and for quite a while at $35 delivered. It looks like they are currently available new for $40 from Amazon and Newegg. I think you got a good deal on the Omnia II. An original Omnia was my first smart phone, and I liked it a lot. I just decided to switch to an Android (HTC Incredible), not out of need, but just for a more modern experience. There were a lot of things I liked about my Omnia, but the Incredible is great, too. This is part of the great thing about PPC. You can play with different devices for very little money.
Thanks all for the replies. The Pixi was listed as Mint and the pics the seller put up did not look like the phone was used much. So I think the price was pretty good. I'll keep you updated when I receive these phones.
I just received my pixi plus in the mail yesterday. I activated it on PP, created the palm/hp profile and downloaded the update via my homes wifi. I also turned off cellular data until I have my main number ported and then switch over to the 55 plan. So I was playing around with it using WiFi and this is turning out to be a pretty neat phone. I'm actually pretty sad that HP/Palm mess things up so badly that webOS is now on life support (maybe the open source community can save it). I think the webOS user interface is way better than androids (just my personal opinion, don't want to start a war here).
I'll tell you what I think of the Omnia II when I received it.
I've had a Pixi Plus for over a year now and it's been worth every penny, even though I paid $90 for it brand new. I love the small form factor (not everyone wants a giant near-tablet size phone) and I love WebOS. I am sickened by the missteps by both Palm and HP to doom a great OS by botching the hardware. But if my Pixi died tomorrow, I'd buy an Android phone for the apps. My favorite e-reader app, Overdrive, is not available for WebOS and I need it for e-books borrowed from my public library (I use pReader for the Pixi but it doesn't support DRM for ePub books). I also have an iPhone for work so I read e-books on my iPhone, but I would love to stop carrying both phones around!! On the plus side, Spotify mobile is available for WebOS and I use it constantly.
