Can old Rogers sim card be used to activate Chatr service?

I am planning to sign up with chatr tomorrow, having read through several threads, I am still trying to figure out if I can use an old Rogers sim card (not used since new phones upgraded had new sim cards).

I have an unlocked phone so I know I can use that with a $10 chatr sim card but I was wondering if I would be able to activate chatr with an old rogers sim card so that I could save $10?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes you can. Several users have reported that you can use it. Call first and ask or go to the chatr website and give it a go!

I had 3 old Rogers Sim Card, tried to sign up and picked number, enter Address etc, and at the final steps, it says my Sim Card number is already used (happen with all the 3 Rogers sim card I have). I guess Rogers may not have "discharged" the 3 old Sim Cards I had, so I can't use it even though they are "unregistered" if I put it into a phone now?

^ Did you get the three sim cards from hardware upgrades over the phone, if so those sim can only be used on the numbers that it came with. Example: You lost your existing sim card on phone A, you can now use the sim Card that came with Phone A as a replacement

It used to work. I have tried it before.

However, it has stopped working for me since a couple of weeks ago. I think Chatr is catching up. They really don't want people to mix Rogers and Chatr together. In any event, a new SIM is only $10.

I know this is an old thread. Gotta question on the price of a new Chatr sim. I see you guys posting it cost $10 for a new one. One location said it cost $20 for a new one. Did the price go up or is that store trying to rip me off? It's for my sister-in-law. She only wants an unlimited talk plan and Chatr seems to be the best for her.

I don't know if there was a price change. I got them at $10 a couple of months ago at BestBuy. You can also try the corporate stores in GTA, use the website to search them. I believe there is one at the Vaughan Mills.

If the price has indeed gone up, you should look at their phones... $50 gets you a phone and SIM card. So it makes no sense to spend $20 just for the SIM card. You might as well spend that $30 extra, and get a back up phone.

    Yes, price went up

I also thought that the dealer was ripping me off so called chat r and it was indeed now $20 from $10

ending up getting a phone and the sim since I router rather pay the extra to get a phone just in case.

I'll check Best Buy and see if they still sell them for $10. The corporate stores sells them for $20. I was telling my sister-in-law to get a phone because their cheapest phone is $50. But I read the Nokia 1616 has terrible RF and call quality. She doesn't want to spend too much on a phone because she just got the SE Xperia Ray from Telus. What phone are you using?

Interesting. I activated summer of last year on Chat-r with a old Rogers SIM and it worked. Interesting that they catch up now (because there are tons of un-activated Rogers SIMs around, in people's drawers etc). I remember at one time a SIM card was $35. with certain providers! (and at the earliest time, Fido charged $50. in 1996 / 1997).

Definitely get a phone if that is the case. Buy one that is easier (and not too expensive) to unlock also, so if you want to get rid of it, it has higher value.
No longer on a leash by Fido
