Non AT&T Smartphones, & Straight talk phones on AT&T? ..and data

Can you use straight talk phones on AT&T with regular AT&T SIM cards? If so will they be flagged as smartphones? I'm specifically looking at the Nokia E5-00 and or E71.

I'm looking for cheap (slightly old) but decent smartphones to use with the dumbphone data, or no data. I just want to get a few family members off crappy dumbphones and onto something more decent.

As far as I know you can't use a ST phone on at&t. They also can't be unlocked from what I can tell.

Well the smarttalk stuff is out.

Now it's just about unlocked phones. I did order an unlocked Nokia E5-00 and will test that on one of my lines this week.

People get the straighttalk E71 to use the SIM in other devices. From what I understand this phone actually uses a normal SIM. YMMV.

Yup, you can't use the ST Nokia phones on AT&T or any other carrier for that matter. They have some lock on it.

Most people buy the ST E71 to take the SIM out of that and use it on any AT&T compatible phone on the $45 unlimited plan. See my sig if you want more info.

The ST phones are not locked per say but they have special software on them for provisioning them to ST's Sim card for the MVNO that is incompatible with an At&t Sim card.
