Has anyone used Att prepaid Tablet data/$25 for 2gb on unlocked usb modems/phones?
The Att prepaid Tablet data plan is way more attractive then any of their other options for data. It is $25 for 2gb and $15 for 250 megs. Overage on the $25 plan is a reasonable ten bucks a gig. Anyone use these plans on unlocked /Att type usb modems or smartphones? http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-pho...equestid=76727

WalMart has an at&t prepaid 4G data card. Is that available for the posted $35 Rate?
P R E P A I D is just another way to offer (and pay for) premium services and devices.
The pre-paid options available are a daily plan for $15, which offers 100MB of data usage, a weekly plan for $30 that provides 300MB of data, or a $50 monthly plan that allows 1GB of data usage http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=15715
Got to have a carrot and stick to keep contract customers on the leash. This is one way they do it.
Actually I'm doing the reverse. I'm using the mentioned 4G AT&T Force USB modem for one month to test the local towers on AT&T prepaid before switching from Millenicom/Verizon 3G recurring monthly to AT&T 4G postpaid. While the modem is 4G HSPA+ instead of LTE, it's much faster than 3g.
Only Verizon and AT&T are co-locating on 2 towers near my house (including a stealth farmer's silo cell tower). Other carriers (T-Mo, Sprint, Nextel, MetroPCS) are on towers too far away for a reliable high speed data connection. Verizon in my rural area is 1-2 mbps with a typical speed of 1.66 mbps dl. AT&T on the same tower is 5.8-10 mbps dl with a typical speed of 9.6 mbps. Ping is also 50% faster and uploads are double or triple the speed. Switching to a Verizon 4G modem wouldn't do any good at home since the Verizon map only shows 3G service locally(looks like Verizon just went for 4G initially near major highways and large towns/cities in CT). Wired high speed internet wouldn't be a good solution because I'm too far away from the street for a "standard hookup" ($$$) and I need portability for work and domestic or international travel.
Note the Force 4G modem often sells on ebay in sealed packages for significantly less than Walmart. Got mine for $35 with shipping. Probably someone's unwanted Xmas gift. Installation was plug and play on a macbook pro and activation was quick and painless.
On their prepaid prices, it mirrors Verizon's offering with the noticeable exception of no prepaid $80/5 gb option. AT&T also offers an unusual add-on international 30 day pass (usable with prepaid or postpaid service) with prices that are significantly less than ad-hoc international roaming (that would be over $20/mb) but still pricey (in the 25 to 50 cent a mb range). AT&T also includes unlimited domestic wi-fi hotspot service so for prepaid users that probably can supplement service for really big downloads.
Basically the test was thumbs up and I'm going to an AT&T store this weekend to convert from prepaid 1 gb/month to postpaid 5 gb/month and have them use a FAN discount code from work. Will then decommission the Verizon modem before month end credit card billing. Verizon served it's purpose well for a couple of years, but AT&T has something better for my needs
I have an old Sierra Wireless card that I want to activate while I am traveling just in case. I just tried to sign up through AT&T's site and it caught the IMEI and said it's not supported :-/ I wonder if I can find someone that won't ever use 3G and use their IMEI with my SIM card...

Issue I can see with that is they send an activation pin to the device to confirm the activation. Without the device with the matching IMEI they might get suspicious. Better inexpensive solution is to get an AT&T 4G Force for $25-$45 in a new sealed package...a good savings off the $90 list at an AT&T store. See several in that price range on ebay...use "at&t" and "force" as search terms. It's a well thought out package with plug and play software on the device, a backup CD, and an instruction manual. I've also seen some sealed package 3G AT&T DataConnect packages for less than that. In either case an activation should be way easier if the package is marked specifically for this service.
