Is the soft cap for the 2012 HMP 5g or should it be 10g?
(I got throttled at 5g.)
I believe it's 5 gb.

ya i thought all the same for all plans
all for 5 gb @.@
Looks like I will have to limit my data use... I'm averaging around 250Mb per day, which would put me at 8g every month, meaning, I will always be throttled towards the end of the month. This month was exceptionally higher because I just signed up and experimented a lot with watching video on it for a couple of days--I won't ordinarily do that, I was just checking out what the network could do.
Looking at my device, the reason for my bandwidth use is podcasts. I guess I auto-download too many of them. Time to prune some! Or make them download on wifi.
Correct most people do not get throttled after 5GB.

It *should* be 10GB as HMP includes tethering?
Only the old HMP (and Irresistible35/Unbreakable40) plans advertised tethering included. So if we want to get technical, only those three plans from 2010/2011 *should* have a 10GB soft cap. The new HMP had no mention of tethering but that may be simply for "marketing" reasons.
FIDO $56 Smart Plan: Unlimited nationwide talk, global messaging, 2GB data w/ BIS and LTE, value pack
WIND $40 Wish Plan: Unlimited nationwide talk, global messaging, unlimited data w/ BIS, call control
All my posts are my own opinion only and not necessarily that of any of my employers, past or present.
In fact I am being throttled right now. I got the text from wind saying I am over the limit and that they will throttle me for the rest of the month.
It is true that I am well over the limit, when I first signed up I experimented with the quality of the link by watching a lot of netflix on it--ordinarily I would do that on my wifi, but I wanted to see how well it worked (it worked pretty well, honestly).
Netflix alone pushed me over 5g, add on my regular usage, and I am way over. I also calculated that even my ordinary usage would push me over 5g (looking at my usage on the days I didn't watch netflix). It turns out I have a lot of podcasts that I have automatically download and it adds up.
My ordinary usage would NOT go over the 10g mark though, so that's why I asked..
It *should* be 10gb, since the old HMP included tethering. Tethering gives you a 10gb soft-cap, and the old HMP and new one is "supposed" to be "identical".
Having said that, despite being "identical", they may not actually be identical in the wind computer see? If you look at your plan in my account, does it say "always shout + infinite data" as the plan description details?
What, you trust what I say? I'm just some random guy/gal on the intertubes.
I am not a lawyer, nor does anything I say constitute legal advice.
Learn how to use Google.
hahahah you mean like this?
"Shout it out loud! It’s our best offer yet: Always Shout PLUS Unlimited global text PLUS Infinite Data for just $40/mo.
Need a little more from your plan every once in a while? Get better pay-per-use rates on just about everything (like AWAY Zone calls just 25c/min). See all pay-per-use rates."
The "my account" section is woefully outdated lol. Either way, a soft cap of 5 GB is plenty. I only use it when out and about, and the very rare times my DSL drops. The DSL is unlimited, and that is where I absolutely tear it up. My roommate and I have to be in TekSavvy's top 20 in terms of most bandwidth pushed per month. Our lowest month ever was like 495 GB. That's right. That is our LOWEST.
Honestly I'm not TOO bothered. Even throttled I am getting a reasonable data experience on my phone. Skype still works, so does web browsing and email, and although my podcasts are a little slow to download, I do get them. It stops me from watching netflix and youtube on my phone, but I don't plan to do that often--watch the odd movie trailer or some such is all I normally do.
I went a little crazy this month with netflix in a "because I can" way since I was never able to do that on mobi, but realistically I don't really need to watch netflix on my Wind account. I do have teksavvy at home too, so that was just completely egregious of me to watch on Wind.
However, if I should have a 10g cap, and all I have to do is call and complain...
lol, you are asking hofo members to give you green light to complain :P
I think they throttled you at 5 gb cuz you did it in a very short time i suppose. If you even it out over a longer period, you might not be throttled at 5gb. Some ppl have used more than 15-20GB evenly i suppose and didn't get throttle.
Line 1: MMo45 for $30/M
Line 2: Wish40 for $35/M
Line 3: Wish40 for $35/M
Line 4: Wish40 for $35/M
LOL, no I was just looking for some ammunition.
