traffic cap? (VM to begin throttling data on 3/23/12)
I am on the grandfathered $35 plan. Just received a VM text stating changes to service plan. Starting 3/32 speeds will be reduced once you hit 2.5GB. I wonder if this will effect all the plans?

I just got that PM too. It is kind of moot since I never get more than about 200Kb/sec anyway.
With such slow speeds, it would be pretty hard to 2.5GB cap. I'd have to use 3G nonstop for 7 hours, if i had a 100kb/s connection.
And even if they do throttle, i remember them saying the throttled speed was 250kb/s, which is faster than what i usually get. Or perhaps my units are wrong. i'm using kilobytes / sec. Are they using kilobits / sec?
When Virgin Mobile promises speed, they are talking in kiloBITS. When you download files off the Internet, you are downloading in kiloBYTES.
If you're pulling a cracked copy of Photoshop off the Internet at 100KBps (big B = Bytes), that means traffic is actually flowing at 800kbps (that's kilo-bits).
256 kilobits per second is 32 kilobytes per second. Which would still make average users...happy.
fine with me, I think unlimited data is stupid anyways. I wish carriers offered reasonable tiered prices for data so customers could get more affordable prices for their use.
Like other's mentioned, you have to have 3g speeds to be throttled in the first place VM lol. I'm lucky if I hit 500kb/s.
If you continue to use the same amount of data as you did in your last plan month, you may see your data speeds reduced during a plan month when the data speed reduction is implemented on March 23, 2012. You can still use your phone to do everything you currently do, but you may experience slower page loads and file downloads and lags in streaming media.
How will it work?
Starting March 23, 2012, if you use over 2.5GB of data in a month on your Beyond Talk Plan:
• Data speeds may be reduced to 256Kbps or below for the rest of your month.
• If data speeds are reduced, they will return to normal as soon as your next plan month starts.
• If you’d rather not wait for your new month to start, you can restart your plan immediately through My Account.
The funny part is this won't make any difference for those of us who hardly go over 0.25kbps anyway.

just saw a sprint add for truley unlimited data for Iphones, maybe the cap is to make sure they got Iphone room to promis such service, until they can steal enough customers from AT&T then cap them too
