AT&T introduces new, larger data plans

Starting Sunday, AT&T will be raising the prices and allocated data of smartphone data plans.

The 200MB plan is going to 300MB for $20

The 2GB plan is going to 3GB for $30

    The $45 4GB w/tethering is going to $50 for 5GB

Im assuming people will be able to keep current data plans, but these look better than the current ones (besides the grandfathered unlimited)

Sounds like a money grab instead of "helping customers avoid overages".

This is probably to offset the use of free text messaging services IMO. Lots of lost revenue there.

My wife has the 200mb and uses only about 40-60MB do hopefully they don't raise hers. I doubt the will. Mine is the grandfathered unlimited.

Sounds like they are just getting on par with Verizon.

The $30 3GB plan is better than Verizons normal 2GB plan for the same price. I'm sure Verizon will respond at some point. But that's good. Well, that is unless they raise the price with it. Which I doubt they will. This actually benefits the lower to middle end customers that use over 300mb as it allows for a little more cushion as well for those that may get near the 2GB cap frequently.

    Now I have 30/unlimited and throtelled at 2 GB. For 30 dollars I can have 3gb non-throtelled.

When are they going to just let people use the data any way they want. Does it matter if it is my phone, my PC, or a tablet? It isn't like a byte of data gets larger because the device gets larger.

These new plans are a joke. AT&T's prices just keep increasing, and there aren't any budget deals for someone that may not use significant amount of data. It seems like a pattern that they keep increasing the price at least once a year.
If they really wanted to make users happy, why not running the same price and offering more data, even if it's just a promo?
Oh right, I forgot they're really not trying to make us happy...

They just want to grab more money. If anything, the 300 MB should be $4 - $5, then 1GB for $10, 2GB for $20, and the 3GB for $30.

What about Verizons prices and data. Let's not forget all the people that have Unlimited Data for $30 on Verizon and the ones that now pay the same price for 2GB. Now if their promo had stuck around it may not have been so bad. But it didn't. So as it stands ATT matches Verizon in price and GB on the more expensive data plans and beats them on the $30 plan. Which actually makes their data plans a slightly better deal if you include the new $30 3GB plan. It's not like they raised the prices on the cheaper plans but not the GB. The same can't be said for Big Red yet.

Well it looks like I'll be sticking with my 2Gb plan. At most I use about 1Gb a month, so there's no reason for me to upgrade to one of these newer plans.

I don't think the new plans are that bad. I'd like to see flat billing of $10/gb though with hotspot enabled for everyone. Pay for what you need/use.

I'm gonna keep my $30 unlimited plan though personally.

I still think they need a lower plan such as a $5 plan that would give something like 50mb for very light smartphone users.

Doesn't this contradict the logic they used when they introduced these plans?

What is the point of post? The title of this thead is not "What about Verizon's prices". And you really should read the "loophole" thread.
