Any reason for me to resign a three year with a 2012 Blackberry?

I've had four Blackberry including my current 9780 which I'm pre happy about. Only complaint is even with minimal apps I still get the clock quite a few times during the day and its just slow even after wiping and restoring data. Don't get me wrong I love my blackberry keyboard, and the messages folder has nothing like it.

I want others opinion though. What would make you want to sign a 3 year contract with a Blackberry of today. Either current, or upcoming.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry Bold 9900: Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9900; en) AppleWebKit/534.11+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.1.0.190 Mobile Safari/534.11+)

Well I sign contracts primarily to receive a discounted plan from my carrier; the discounted phone is just a bonus. If you want my opinion on upgrading, I would do it (I did actually). I had the 9780 and upgraded to the 9900 last week...night and day! I loved my 9780 just as I loved my 5 BlackBerry models prior that, but the 9900 has really taken BlackBerry hardware to the next level. The 9900 keyboard blows the 9780's keyboard out of the water (and that says a lot), and the browser is twice as fast. Will there be something better coming along with BB 10 phones? Sure! But do you really want to wait until the later part of 2012?

The 9900 would be leaps and bounds better then the 9780. You shouldn't have any issues with lag as they stepped up the processor speed quite decently.

If you are happy and the device works for you, why switch?

As for the spinning clock, that generally indicates low memory. Do you have a lot of apps loaded? Are all of your photos, ringtones and music on the SD card?

Have you done a battery pull lately?

I have a Bold 9700 and it is slow (and I don't have a lot of memory on it to install any additional applications)...

The main reason I'm not updating to the Bold 9900 yet is that I'm trying to see whether my Bold 9700 "survives" until the new Blackberries come out with the new OS.

From my understanding (and I haven't been keeping up with this so I might be mistaken), the new OS is totally incompatible with the older/current Blackberries so in my opinion (at least for me), getting a Bold 9900 to replace my working Bold 9700 is a waste of money.
    Fido (monthly plan - personal/data):Novatel Wireless MC950D / Nokia CS-18

Rogers (pay as you go - Canadian prepaid): "Fido" (unlocked) Samsung Nexus-S

Rogers (monthly BIS data plan): unlocked Blackberry Bold 9700

Red Pocket Mobile (US prepaid): unlocked Sony-Ericsson w300i

T-Mobile (US prepaid): unlocked Fido iPhone 3GS 32GB

You can run OS 6 on your 9700, but not OS 7. But if you're already having memory problems I wouldn't recommend OS 6 on a 9700 because it's a memory hog.

I'm running OS 6 on my Bold 9700 and yes, I realize that it is a big memory hog. I should have kept OS 5 on it as I had a lot more applications installed on it with OS 5 on it than I can have with OS 6 installed on it.

I also don't recommend OS 6 for anyone who currently is running OS 5 (and their BB device is capable of OS 6).

I haven't attempted to downgrade because of the amount of time involved to do this (it takes about half a day to install the OS and configure/reinstall all the programs back onto the Blackberry to get it working just fine again).

I'm just waiting for the new OS (QNX) on the new Blackberries before I even seriously consider updating my currently working Bold 9700 because as I mentioned from what I've heard, the existing line up of Blackberries (including the "recent" Bold 9900) won't be compatible with QNX and people who want to use QNX will need new Blackberries.
