I have purchased iPhone 4 from VirginMobile via Tab option.
So, I paid $269+tax and owed (initially) $500+tax to VirginMobile ($500 was on my tab at the time of opening the contract).
I need my iPhone to be unlocked (will be traveling to Europe soon). VirginMobile doesn't want to unlock the phone for me, even though, I own the phone.
Does that make sense to you?
Does anyone have a way around this sneaky VirginMobile game?
Hey there. This is Talli and I work here at Virgin Mobile. We do not unlock iPhones currently, but we are working like crazy to be able to unlock iPhones, in the future.

You do know that no Provider in Canada unlocks a subsidized iPhone. So don't blame Virgin. Rogers & Fido will unlock it for $50 only after the subsidy has been paid for & recently if you cancel your account and pay the camcelation fee. So to answer your question where you say does this make sense? It sure does make sense.

No, it doesn't make sense.
I paid for the phone $269+tax. I owe to VirginMobile $500 (through SuperTab). Where do you see sub-sized portion/fact?
I offered to VirginMobile customer service to pay off my SuperTab balance and to get the phone unlocked by them, they said this could not be done!
Well, I suppose everyone should be able to understand what kind of games VirginMobile plays here. I am done with them.
The disappointing part here is what I have learned along the path:
Apple is a partner in crime. They advertise the fact that iPhone can be purchased at VirginMobile: http://www.apple.com/ca/iphone/buy/
and this is a complete lie. The iPhone devices we can purchase at Apple and VirginMobile are different! (unlocked vs. locked). Day and night.
I think I am done with both of them VirginMobile and Apple. Since I have to buy another smart phone to travel through Europe, due to my experience and lessons learned:
- the new phone will not be Apple (instead, Google Nexus, unlocked!)
- I will break my contract with VirginMobile and move my business elsewhere
You or others can do whatever you want. I am here to tell you the facts. If I had known all of this prior to getting the iPhone through VirginMobile, it would not be iPhone nor VirginMobile.
I see these threads all the time people coming on the boards and blaming the provider for not unlocking there phone... It's not the providers fault... DO some homework before the purchase and you would know that iphones are not easy to unlock... Do a little more reading on unlocking iphones as there could be other options
