Unlimited Data related to Unlimited Mobile Browsing?

    Hi Everyone,

So I activated an account online for my phone for the first time. Been with Fido for awhile but never activated my account online. To my surprise I checked my usage and it says my data is unlimited! I don't even know how this could be possible. The only thing I can think of is that I have the unlimited mobile browsing add on. I've read through this forum that it can't be used with smart phones or unlocked or you'd be charged. However I have never been charged for data ever. Moved from a fido dumb phone to an unlocked smart phone over a year ago (Samsung Galaxy S). Please see attached screenshot.

Oh I was just wondering who else with fido has noticed this with their account. Is it a mistake or is it correct. Otherwise I should keep quiet lol.

Does Rogers/Fido still offer the unlimited data for a month-3 months if you sign/renew your contract?

I don't know about renewing a contract but when I signed up for data on a new account ~2 years ago, I had unlimited data for ~3 months on Rogers.

What does your actual bill say your data plan is?

If you are referring to me, then I will answer. My bill lists my data usage in KB but the billed amount is always $0.00. What I'm concerned about is I've never received any kind of warning (on device, mail, phone call etc) since I got the package. I'm more surprised there is no warning when you try to use data. I remember the value pack only consisting of call display, voicemail, unlimited evenings and weeks after 5pm as the main sticking points. There were so many combinations back then, I didn't even realize I had unlimited mobile browsing included until I accessed the internet one day! Even with supposed IMEI tracking and warning disclaimers, which I've only read now, I've never been shown anything that indicated I was using my phone outside what I've paid for. Retroactive bills are counterproductive, they tell you something was wrong years ago, years after! Having read that UL mobile browsing thread, I'm pretty sure that bill was retroactive. I feel sorry for the person with that bill since it was probably an honest mistake switching to a smartphone because their dumbphone died, while still having that unlimited mobile browsing option.

So now I pretty much have 3 options

    1) Call fido and find out why I haven't been charged. Same as suicide in my opinion.
    2) Call fido and cancel, and hope they don't notice and charge me years down the road and ruin my credit.
    3) Wait and see if and when the charge me down the road. Same as waiting to die from terminal illness in my opinion.

So which one would you guys pick?

ummmm...huh...tough question...I would pick 2 but I don't like to gamble. Once your account is closed, they shouldn't be able to do much. I would try 3 and you have all of your bills and such to prove your innocence if it ever comes back on you. If I liked to gamble, I would do 3, if not 2. 1 is problematic - they then have a vehicle to charge you and you can't claim innocence.
I'm not telling you anything that you can't just google for yourself

    Hi ramblo,

I'm Cédrik from Fido's Social Media team.

The option you have, as per your screenshot, is the Unlimited Mobile Browsing (either $10 on it's own or included in a Value Pack that you already have).

This option is specifically made for regular, non-smartphone Fido phones.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of this option, we can't guarantee that you will never be charged considering that your phone is unlocked.

    I hope this clarifies.

Well, such device must be connected through B.I.S...

The only thing I might suspect is the usage of a third party browser app... I'm not an expert but I don't think this person can do much with a Blackberry...
