Heads up: Nokia Astound @ $99 no-contract (must order thru a postpaid account)

The Nokia Astound is now $99 NO CONTRACT but the catch is you must order it using a postpaid account. You can use a friend or family's account online, and you prepay for it with your credit card so there's no charges to their account. I know a lot of folks here like the Nuron and the Astound is just an upgrade with a nicer screen and camera while keeping Ovi Maps. Plus, WiFi calling is on-board. It will use your prepaid minutes, but is nice to have nonetheless.

I just ordered one.. Supposedly the bad reviews are for the initial firmware, but there was an update (Symbian "Anna") that makes it much more stable.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

    I would love that.
Not to be though, I don't have anyone with a contract on T Mobile.
Oh well, it really does look nice.
I love my Nuron and this one really looks great.

I really really love my Moto Cliq too.

After I heard about AT&T giving up.

Interesting. Total come out to be $122 shipped for Californians. But for a phone with dead end OS? I would wait for the fire sale. Nuron was $50 less than a year ago. (possibly after a prepaid card, can't remember)

Yes it was $50 with a free $30 card and $7.50 cashback from Fatwallet plus several of us got an extra $30 in airtime free because they did not send a MicroSD card with the phone.
    I loved that deal!

This phone at close to that deal I would jump on fast.

That's a great price compared to what even used ones are selling for on eBay. I saw the Anna update just came out but haven't really seen any info posted if it fixs the phones issues. I'd appreciate a review after you've played around with it. I don't know anyone on TMo postpaid either though.

The phone was for a relative, but I did play around with it for a bit and I had to do the Anna update before giving him the phone anyway. You can't do it over WiFi, so I put my own SIM in it and it downloaded and installed the update. I didn't use it much but I didn't have any problems with it freezing or crashing. Every person who had it before the update has said the Anna update fixes everything. I see that you can flash the Belle update yourself too which is supposed to be pretty good.

In the end, $99 + tax and shipping ($110 total for me) is a nice deal. I just read online that it tethers via Ovi Suite. Offline GPS like the Nuron is a huge plus for those who don't have or want a data plan.

This alone: WCDMA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 --- is probably reason enough to pick one up for those who travel. You could have an unlocked 3G phone for just about any network!

Oh and just FYI: these are available again. They disappeared after a few days from the upgrade page for existing customers, now it's back. I think I'm going to order one more.

Thanks I appreciate the review. I see that Nokia said yesterday that the Astound won't be getting the Belle update. Disappointing but not surprising. It's true that you can flash it to Belle yourself but as I understand it you would lose the WiFi calling capability. At least that's what happened to people that flashed the Anna update before it was officially released by TMo.

I looked at the phone through My T-Mobile site, and I show $134.99 for the Nokia Astound with no contract extension.
Did they raise the price, or do I have to go through another channel?

Sigh.. Yeah kinda sucks that T-Mo is not supporting the update to Belle. I'm still waiting on my .8107 Windows Phone update on my Radar and Lumia too -- T-Mobile takes too long! Anyway, I figure for $100 I can tinker with the Astound. I'm happy to report that my relative said he actually really likes the phone, though I'm sure his $10 'Loyalty phone 1st web" unlimited internet has a bearing on it. He hasn't ever had data but I added it to his plan two months ago cause he wanted a new phone but didn't want to pay $30/mo for internet. He's cheap, just like the rest of us

And yes! The price went up to $134.99 just recently. Must be flying off the virtual shelves at $99 so they upped the price. What a shame. I'd pay $99 but not $135 + tax + shipping. I ordered a second one just before it went up to $134.99.

sorry to bump a slightly old thread - but is anybody willing to buy one and send one up to Canada? I would of course pay all shipping costs + a little extra for your time, and we could do it through eBay for both parties' safety (I've got 182 feedback)

    It's back down to $99: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/...und-%20Regular

The Astound is actually still at $134.99 for handset upgrades. It may drop back down to $99.99 but I don't know if and when. At $135 + $5.99 shipping + tax, it's not a hot deal anymore IMO.

It's not really sold anymore outside of Quebec. Last one to sell it was WIND mobile who blew it out at $150 in December. Long since sold out though. I want one so I can use maps without Data when I go to Europe.

Thanks for getting back to me about that island_boy. Too bad the price went up!
