allmanallpimp: My mom had an iphone 3gs for about a year and used almost none of the data. She just likes to have the games and touchscreen so I'm really trying to avoid spending the extra $10 a month. But it looks like I'll have to go that route I guess seeing as how none of the android are able to get on a $40 plan.

you can choose the $40 LTE plan for an Android now (at least according to www.metropcs.com website.) If you click on the LTE $40 plan and view phones eligible for the plan it shows the Android LTE devices in the current line up.

i think metro should have a 3g plan and a 4g plan for their Lte phones so if u dont want 4g you can just use 3g. i mean not everyone is comfortable using less powerful android phone just to be on the $40 plan. dont get me wrong phones like the lg optimus or the admire are decent phones but they lack more cpu power and it shows when you play games like angrybirds or such games beacause it really does lag a bit on them.

I think you have it backwards. The LTE Android plan is $40, the 3G Android plan is $50.

the reason metro did the plans like this (50 for android and 40 starting out for lte) is because they know people with androids are more likely to use more data. it goes hand in hand...

Remember, Metro started with higher priced plans a few years ago for the blackberry, which used more data. Then they continued that with Androids, which really suck up the data. So, Androids were $50 monthly plan or more.

Now, Metro is suddenly allowing the LTE Androids to be on a $40 plan -- a strategy I THINK to get more people to consider LTE Androids. LTE is Metro's future. The faster they can get everyone over to that side of the fence, the faster they can move on to the next steps in their business plan.

Metro is in a Catch 22. They want to go all LTE eventually and cut off CDMA (at least in home markets), yet due to current LTE Android higher purchase prices Metro is still having to introduce and sell lower cost CDMA-only Androids to people who say they don't want to buy higher priced phones. Once people get an LTE Android, boy do they see the difference! But you have to get those phones into their hands -- one way or another.

Until the LTE Android prices come down, the next best solution is to offer a lower monthly plan for LTE Androids. Voila.

However, the "$40" plan has only 100MB (select categories of) data per month. For some people, that's all they need. For others, they will quickly realize why they will need to upgrade to at least the $50 plan. So, the $40 LTE plan is sort of the "teaser" rate. But if it helps sell more LTE Androids, that's OK.
Your creed may be interesting, but your deeds are much more convincing.
