The browser uses up your minutes. It's something like .5 minutes just to hit go, and then it nibbles away by time. A picture message is something like 1.5 minutes on average, I would say. It's not strictly minutes, so they sometimes refer to units instead.

I would go for a decent screen size rather than resolution per se. Sometimes the fonts are adjustable. I don't think you would have a problem with the LG ringer.

I've read a few user reviews complaining about how the LG501C has the browser button on a soft key and inadvertently pressing it starts the phone to logon to the web and costs .5 minutes. How big an issue is this can you lock the browser?

Also more about Tracfone in general but been reading about people having trouble transferring their existing phone number and recommend not going through the hassle and just get a new number. Is this an issue?

No, you can't lock the browser out. Most folks who have Tracfones have learned to avoid hitting the browser button through experience. A lot of those complaining are new to Tracfone/Net10 and they haven't learned to avoid that trap, it's that way on most of their phones. Not a big deal you just have to learn to avoid hitting it accidentally. I think the only Tracfone you can move the browser button/widget out of sight is the LG 800G, you can take the browser widget off the main screen on the LG800G.

A lot of folks do it successfully but they don't jump on the forums and tell you it worked without any hassle. Some folks have issues, depends on the company you're transferring the number from and the competency of the Tracfone folks doing the porting. You can give it a shot, if it doesn't go smoothly change your mind and opt for a new number. I had no problem doing it but it did take about 7 days to port my number, that was many years ago.

Ok thanks since my wife will rarely use the browser I was hoping you could lock it out it's too bad they put it on a soft key. Would be kind of a pain to do everytime but I suppose she could lock the buttons when not in use or in a purse so it didn't accidently get pushed.

A flip style phone would solve this problem.

Yeah that's what her old phone was and maybe that's what she needs to stick with but the LG220C and LG231C look like crappy phones like her LG3280 was even though she liked it.

I have the LG220c and LG500g (GSM version of the 501c but same keyboard). Both the 220c and 231c are substantial phones. Don't make your decisions based on 'artist rendering.'

The advantage of the flip phones is no accidental browser accidents. The disadvantage is the keypad entry method is a pain in the *** for entering conact info, and texting.

The advantage of the LG501's blackberry-style qwerty keyboard is ease of key entry for contact info, texting and notes. The disadvantage is risk of accidentally launching the browser.

Stop by a Best Buy or K-Mart or Radio Shack and get a look at both of them first hand, then make your decision. Or buy one of each -- they are both fairly cheap -- try them out side by side and return the one you don't like.

Well I showed my wife pictures and online video reviews of the LG220c, LG231c, LG290c, and LG501c and she had me order the LG290C for her. We live in a rural area so having stores to go in and check out different phones is not readily available to us.

I guess she wanted something different than a flip phone this time around so it was really between the LG290c and LG501c. She picked the LG290c over the LG501c because it was supposed to have a better camera and I had read you could lock down the browser.

I told her to give the LG290c a try and if she didn't like it then we could turn around and order a LG501c since the phones are so cheap (paid next to nothing for the former). Yes not having a keyboard to enter contacts will be a pain but as far as texting I doubt if she will actually do that.

Do they make any special cases for sliders like the LG290c?

Use this for a head start on learning how to use the 290:

    Mike2874,
That is a very popular phone, a lot of people really like that phone, she should like it too.

They make cases, holsters, and covers for that phone, check eBay to see a bunch of choices:
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=lg290c+case

When you get the phone remember this, to turn the browser off for that phone go to Security settings and turn it off there.

Have a question my wife ordered a hard case for her LG290c http://askbobrankin.com/ten_awesome_...ddons.html?pcp but after receiving it we found out it does not allow the slider to work.

Do they make hard cases for that phone that have a gap to allow the slider to work or are you restricted to leather pouches?
