Long time Nextel subscriber here. In my hand I now hold a Kyocera Duramax. Never thought i would do this, but you cant pass up 99 cent upgrades mid contract. So far, the DC works amazingly well. If you had a Pro 700, it is a lot like that. but the speaker works way better. I am very interested in trying some long distance dc calls. anyone interested, PM me your dcn. I'll update more info after I had had it a while.
“Right now, I’m glad we have the iDEN network,” Hesse said. “I wouldn’t have said that 18 months ago, but I am now ... from a financial perspective.”
NEXTEL. Done. I guess that's "Life at SprintSpeed"

Ok, update #1. So far, i am very happy with this unit. Sprint-Sprint DC calls work flawless. Sprint-Nextel DC work WAY better than I expected. They defiantly did some homework and made MAJOR changes since the release of the original qchat. There are some times where signal drops out (way less than I experienced on iDEN) But so far so good. Battery life is excellent. The fact that I can send text fast, and update Facebook and email from a rugged phone is excellent! It is very similar to the 686, somewhat lighter. We are expecting a winter storm tonight and I will be using it a lot tonight so we'll see what happens. So far, this is the BEST option for all of us iDEN users.
Good to hear a review from a longtime DC user. I'm still waiting on international DC before I migrate 4 lines that have and depend on DC. It would be interesting to know if DC works at all while roaming either on 3G or 1X.
Ironically, We had one line that was due for a new 2 year upgrade. There was an icon on the my sprint home page that said "the next generation of push to talk." It offered the Duramax or the Admiral for $.99! I upgraded one 8350i to the Admiral, then the following week the icon was back. I then upgraded a 686 to the Duramax for the same cost! I still have a few iDEN lines active, so we'll see what happens. Am I the only one who got this offer??

Just made a near flawless twenty minute nationwide DC call CDMA-iDEN form Philly to Columbus Ohio. The voice was clear and strong, and both units stayed connected for the entire connection. I ended the conversation a few times to see how smooth the iDEN unit in Ohio could reconnect with me on CDMA. He was able to reconnect right away, no major issues to report. The unit performed excellent under heavy use during our storm last night. Again I will say, that so far this is a viable option for iDEN users, as long as the CDMA network can continue to work this way as more users migrate.

This is good to hear from a long time Nextel user!
I replaced a small fleet of V950's with DuraMax's. I only real issue I had with the v950's was their propensity for the DC to freeze up/become unreachable after a certain amount of time on standby. Looks like Sprint fized that--which is great.
That said, it will not connect to DC while roaming (did they activate that yet?)
Id love to see a DC enabled CDMA BlackBerry. IIRC Verizon did this with their Bold.

No, not yet. That and international DC is supposed to be coming in the first part of 2012...

Yeah that would be nice, though I suspect RIM already has quite a bit on their plates these days. I'm hoping that Motorola's follow up to the Photon is SDC capable.
Well, as a longtime Nextel user, I'm glad to see that Sprint may have done something right...for a change. That being said, I wonder if this good performance will hold up as more users switch over. Guess time will tell.

I was reading that they are just going to release an app to the android market that allows any android phone to be SDC capable.
While it won't have a physical button, it will be "close". Kinda cool if you ask me. Good for casual users.
