Hi, i'm setting up a dvr for a customer out of town and they purchased a Novatel Wireless Ovation MC547 and a Asus RT-N13U 3g Router. Everything is working internet web browsing wise from a pc. My question after hours of testing, does MTS block ports on the mobile 4g network? I have tried ports 80, 8080, 9000, 18004 for the dvr all with no luck. I'm using No-IP redirect and know I have the right ip address (double checked at whatsmyip).
Now before you respond be aware that I have tested all the ports with canyouseeme and yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ and I have no open ports. I even enabled web admin on the router and cannot even connect to the router externally. The network is fully functional internally including mobile devices via wifi just not externally. This is not the first time I have set up a router and forwarded ports.
Now before I get a ton of hate posts I can assure you the dvr video stream is adjustable for mobile and will not murder the node lol.
Oh MTS, how is it that I know more then both sales and service combined. I have verified that the issue is when on a mobile network you are not assigned a route-able public ip address. No one at MTS has any clue what i'm talking about. Rogers readily admits this and for an additional $10.00 a month will assign you a public ip address and its as easy as changing your apn from internet.com to vpn.com.
MTS what gives? I would hate to have to go with Rogers. Anybody wanna chime in on their experiences ?
I'm having the same problem. Trying to port forward to a Lorex DVR system using a Novatel stick and MoFi router and can not make it work. If this is an MTS issue and Rogers offers a working solution then I will recommend that my client switch to Rogers.

To get this to work, you would get a VPN connection.
The issues why DVR does not work off a stick is because of NAT.
Your private and public ip address are different
I think they will charge you $10 extra per month but when you do, MTS will give you a VPN APN which you would put in the MOFI router and then you will have all the same features as what you would get with a cable\dsl connection.
If you need any details on how to set up any of this, please contact me but have personally dealt with many customers and they have it working.
You can even remote log in to your router but you have to make sure that the MOFI router is version 2.
