A relative is looking to upgrade from her Nokia C3 feature-phone to something a little more capable. She doesn't have a data plan, but would like to have her IMAP (Gmail) e-mail, Google calendar and Google contacts synced to the phone via Wifi when she is at home, so she has them handy on-the-go. A QWERTY keyboard and excellent battery life are key requirements.
I am thinking of getting her either a second-hand E72 or a new-in-box E5 to meet her needs.
(1) Will the E72 and E5 both sync her IMAP e-mail, Google calendar and contacts seamlessly via Wifi when she is at home (i.e. doesn't have to be initiated manually, but syncs automatically at a pre-set interval)? I am unfamiliar with Symbian.
(2) Given the choice of used E72 vs. fairly new E5, which would be recommended? She would prefer something as light-weight as possible and again, battery life is key.

Thanks in advance.
It is "possible" to sync google mail, contacts, and calendar, but it isn't easy or seamless on Symbian.
A better choice for that would probably be an unlocked Android capable of Data Toggle On/Off. VZW and AT&T are quite good at deleting that feature before releasing Android phones.
Without bloat and data, the Androids do much better on battery life.
My wife's E5 is currently IMAP syncing gmail & calendar at home or at work or my joikuspot or other set up wifi hotspot quite seamlessly. There's a requirement if I remember correctly to be sure to use the Smart Connect App and define your connection points there to ensure things go smooth.
She does not have a data plan.
