This is clearly a case of identity theft. Contact the credit bureau and see if there has been any other accounts such as credit cards or loans opened under your name.

I am going to call Fido today to see just how much information they got from the perpetrator and get this rolling.

At this point it looks like a Fido issue, I think they dropped the ball and opened the account with way too little info. The other option is that my SIN etc. have been compromised which would would be a mess involving credit bureaus and all that but I have yet to see any evidence that this is the case. No other problems have come up and the bill from Fido is actually missing my middle initial, apartment number and updated postal code, all 3 pieces of info are on all of the mail I get from other places I do business with.

Don't forget Transunion, the other big credit reporting agency.

I had my wallet stolen abroad and calling both saved my bacon numerous times. It doesn't keep you from getting credit - it just makes any company in NA call you first before anyone gets credit with your name!
I'm not telling you anything that you can't just google for yourself

Wasn't Fido that stole his ID so you would have nothing to sue for.

He could get some compensation somehow for time spent/ money spent sorting this out. Maybe not from fido but from the fido rep who sold the plan and phone without checking proper id

This is extremely important. U don't want to mess other things as well before it gets any worse. Get hold of Equifax, and try to see if anything has changed and if there were any inquiries done.

Here is the number.....1 866 205 0681, it wil be hard for u to get through from the listed numbers.
    Good luck...

Don't forget transunion. As a former banker I can tell you it is crucial you protect your credit first. It is the first call I made when my wallet was lifted abroad.
