The courts have disagreed with how much can be covered by copyrights and patents, but that doesn't change or invalidate the fact that they have aped a lot from Apple.
I'll go ahead an keep thinking it. You go ahead and keep trying to think it isn't true. I never generalized and said it was across all of their products. I said they ape their ID. They do. There is really no denying it (and hence no reason for the strawman). (And yes, the smartcover knockoffs were from a technically separate company and not Samsung. They were however certified as official Samsung accessories and the company is run by Samsung family members)
When I was an engineer at Motorola we called them "Samesung"
See, the Samsung charger and cables are black! They're totally different!
Completely. And see, they say 'Samsung' not 'Apple'. Can't get much more different than that!

yeah, I've seen earlier instances of their 'being influenced' by other companies. Which has been a good business move by them. Very successful. That's why I don't understand the whole denial thing.
And a recent Samsung commercial has some Apple fans saying "I think we just got 'Samsunged'"...which I think has a different meaning for anyone that has looked at their product design objectively.

The issue with Apple spending a small portion of their money on lawyers is they have to protect what is arguably the most important part of their business - iOS.
If they do not show that they are actively fighting a company when that company may have copied their look and feel, then Apple will not have a leg to stand on whenever anyone copies anything with iOS.
And without the popularity of iOS, Apple would be a completely different company.
Yeah, $100 million is a lot of money. But the billions that Apple has made through iOS is a lot more, and a lot more important to protect.

I'm sorry but that's just too funny. . Realistically, there are bound to be similarities across the board when creating new devices and software. At what point do all these copyright lawsuits just become petty ways of throwing pot shots back and forth. Now, if it's almost completely the same ( cough* Chinese iclones * cough), I could see reason for a reaction. Just my opinion though.

To heck with flowers and candy, leave the jewelry at the store, but when it comes to cell phones, I always want one more.
After a record quarter, it's safe to assume that Apple products are selling.
Now keep the money in R&D and calm down. I don't think HTC's patent infringements or any others slowed buy Apple's growth

While iOS is a great OS when it came out I thought there were similarities between it and S60. Of course back then S60 wasn't touchscreen yet.
Other than the stack of icons I see NO similarities with ios and s60. I see the later more similar to android - allow themes, user system configurable, and the boot loader/firmware to be circumvented to allow thefted apps for installation.
