iPhone 4 with scratches on screen but....

It doesn't respond as ''smooth'' as a non scratched screen. If I scroll up or down a page, the screen will jump around or act very erratic. There are a few local repair shops that charge $50-60 to replace the screen but will that fix weird screen movement issue?

Sounds like your issue is with the capacitive touch digitizer rather than the display. But it could be that they are a single sub-assembly and need to be replaced together.

It's much easier to replace them both as a single unit by far.....I'd do a restore on it just to make sure it's not glitchy software

thanks for your replies. complete restore was the first thing I did when I noticed this issue, but had no success. if I consider getting it fixed, just ask to replace the screen and digitizer? I'm worried that if I get this fixed I'll still be stuck with this problem

How bad are these scratches? Is it still under warranty?

If it's under warranty, it doesn't hurt to take it to an Apple store and just point out that the digitizer seems off. Unless these are more gouges than they are scratches, they shouldn't affect the ability of the display to scroll.

the warranty is expired. the scratches arent that deep at all but everytime i scroll up or down, it's way off. i purchased a screen/digitizer combo and i'll attempt to fix it myself. hopefully things will return back to normal after the repair

If you have never worked on an iPhone before i would not recommend it, I see you are in central florida. there is an iHospital in tampa that is fairly priced, i would recommend checking them out. I have heard great reviews on the place.

Unfortunately I don't in Tampa, so that's a bit of a drive for me. Yesterday the replacement screen came in and I proceeded with the install and problem solved. The new screen/digitizer combo works perfect and all is well again. I paid 31.99 for the screen and tools. Install time took about 2.5 hrs because I was extremely cautious and also had to back track a few times because I left out a screw then a connector. Thx again for everyone's advice
