Straight Talk and battery on iPhone 3GS, please help
Hello,
I just activated my 3gs on ST; everything is fine BUT-my battery is draining very quickly. Yes, I turned off WIFI and even EDGE/data using SBS settings.
The phone is acting like it is set on ROAM and looking for a signal, even though I have 5 bars.
I am using a ST SIM card on a 3gs that has IOS 4.0.1
Any help in settings would be appreciated so much, thank you in advance.
Everything is still working fine on the iphone3s with ST.
HOWEVER: My battery life is draining very quickly (I am turning edge/data and wifi OFF) and it still is draining very fast.
The phone is acting like it is on ‘roam’ and using the battery life; anyone have a fix for this please?
thank you.

Sorry to hear that. Some hackers made a battery fix script recently. But it looks like a fake. My battery seems to be in good shape

I just synced to itunes and am not sure if that will help.
It in the about page of the general settings menu. It is listed as modem firmware. I forget what the normal value is supposed to be on a 3GS on 5.0.1. But the firmware should be lower than 6 something i believe otherwise it means somebody but it on iPad baseband to unlock it and that makes all kinds of trouble. Try check online for the real value.
That's interesting . . .
I'd like to know your BaseBand version , too.
Go to the Settings icon, it's gray with some gears
At the bottom of that first screen (without scrolling) is General
At the top of the next page is About
Near the bottom of the last screen (yes, scroll down) is Modem Firmware
That's your Baseband. What is it?
I have a 3GS with BB 6.15.00 and am getting very bad battery life, too.
Think I have it solved, and am currently in the middle of posting my fix on SatelliteGuys.US forum
I'll give a link to it or re-post it here when I'm done.
Do you have your SHSH blobs saved from previous Jailbreaking?
Can you install other versions of the firmware iOS?

It helps if you've put a new digitizer screen on the 3GS recently (which I had).
So then the battery replacement took a calm hour, using the tools the vendor supplied.
I ordered mine through Amazon.
Always comb the reviews carefully to see which vendor supplied the good or the bad part.
I went with Eforcity, and got a 1600mah battery.
About $7 shipped.
Through controlled tests, it did last a reasonable amount longer than the stock battery.
But not two times longer. Maybe 20% longer.
This proved the original battery wasn't really faulty.
You can read the story about my testing method on the forum above.
Search for threads started by me (Anole), and look for one called: Power Drain iPhone: SOLVED
I doubt you need a new battery, but it's a good way to make a controlled before & after test.
Oh, and I watched a bunch of battery swap videos on youtube, so when I went for it, it was really relaxed and easy.
Try upgrading to 5.0.1 perhaps? I have a 3GS with 5.0.1 jailbroken and baseband of 05.16.05 with no battery problems.
I think you'll need to look at replacing the battery though. You might want to place your phone on airplane mode for a day just to see how long the battery lasts.
Yes, I tried that and even in airplane mode the battery drains faster than it used to. The odd thing is that I'll be listening to Spotify (offline) and even though the battery says 65-70%; the phone will turn off and will NOT turn back on with the power button or a soft reset. The only way to get power back is to plug it back in; then it will still show battery at 65% or above and turn back off shortly thereafter.
So, a trip to the charger it goes and I'll have an hour or two of useable phone time (with edge on); without edge; about 5 hours max.
OK, possible solution: I just got the charging port replaced ($39) and everything is fine now. It seems there was some water damage and the phone was not charging properly.
Also, the SBS settings battery % is notoriously inaccurate.
Hope this helps some people out. Next week I am switching to an iphone 4. If anyone needs a GREAT guy to do cheap repairs let me know and I can (if allowed) post his site on here.
MODS, let me know if that is ok.
