The OP says they have $100 FD's.
If they buy the phone on their account, they'll still save $75.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G
I guess the point you are missing is that then I don't have $100 do I I have $75!
Why doesn't Fido just start the program after they remove the fees they are going to charge you anyways!
As far as doing a HUP and paying with Fido $ why won't they let you pay right away with Fido$ and a credit card and not charge you the $25? Because its a cash rip off!
Well technically, if you wait your contract it's not - especially for smartphones. If are giving you percentage back which is not in their prerogative to do. They are then taking back $25 of that. If you stick with them for the duration of a contract you should have more than $25 fido dollars. I know it sucks but technically you are not even paying the $25
I'm not telling you anything that you can't just google for yourself

Exactly what I was trying to say.
The Op still saves $75 off any handset,I'd rather get something rather than nothing.
I don't get why he says I missed the point.
Except that the tab-based providers return at 10% of your bill instead of 5% like Fido, and don't charge you the "upgrade" fee when it comes time to buy your next phone...
True - but mathematically everyone is using your own money to subsidize your phone. Whether it's 10% until you pay back your phone cost (that is what a tab is...a debt) or 5% back with a $25 premium at next purchase, it is still a rewards style program. If you crunch all the numbers - the overall profit margin of both styles of deals is probably similar.

The point is that while still getting something, he is getting less than originally promised (at least effectively). It would be similar to collecting airmiles on your credits card. 'Something for nothing', but when you go to use them the rules are structured to automatically deduct XX% off the top for trips (but not if you trade them in for a three month subscription to some magazine), making them less valuable as a whole. Do they still have value? Yes. Is the value being reduced as the program 'matures'? Unquestionably.

Is this why airlines don't include taxes in the prices listed in ads?
When I go to book a flight listed @ $349, they some how forget to tell you there's a few $100 in taxes, & various fees they add on @ the cash register.
Sure the airmiles help reduce cost, but we've come to expect these extra charges.
Who's more honest here?
When I left Fido, I lost all my Fido dollars too, there was no option @ the time to transfer them to another account.(I asked about it)
I always buy out my phones outright, have been doing it since I was a teen.
Never was a fan of long contracts, most of my $FD were a % of my monthly invoice.
Did it bother me? Initialy yes, but I got over it quickly since I wasn't going to stay with them cause they didn't offer BB service @ the time.
I moved to Rogers, same deal. I accumulated Roger dollars as a customer.
@ this point I figured they got enough of my $$$,& they could keep whatever my total balance was. It mos def wasn't enough to keep me as customer.
I just think it's a poor customer relations policy to give you some sort of incentive to be loyal and then come up with some trumped up way to reduce that same incentive!
And as the case here clearly shows fool some people into thinking they are doing you a favour by only charging you the $25!
