I just tried the *22890 on my previously activated Droid 2 Global. I get a failure- can't activate this phone type of message. But if I do a *228 and then select the option 2 for roaming update, that works fine.
Also a far as texting goes- I forgot to turn my 3G back on under the battery and data management options after I rooted the phone and loaded Droidwall. MMS texts would not work for me of course. I was thinking it was something to do with Droidwall options (not enough 3G services allowed) but it was just that I had no 3G on the phone still and nothing to do with Droidwall at all. All my MMS messages I had attempted to send testing out with 3G turned off did go out as soon as I did the Data Enable under the phone options.
Thanks for the info. Does *22890 work for you now? Is it even supposed to work on the Droids? If not how do you get the PRL updated? I see a thread on the latest PRL, but I couldn't find an explanation on how to actually update.
Yes. Once it got set up all the OTA stuff seems to work. I was able to update my PRL and turn off the roaming indicator after manual activation.
(edit) After reading later posts, I realized that I used *228 for PRL update.
Thanks jay_rm and RShea for the *228 info. I thought that I had tried *228 option 2 before and it failed, but I tried it after reading your messages and it worked. It updated my PRL to 52633. I didn't write down what it was before but I know that it was different than that. So now that I know that I am able to update the PRL, I can concentrate on the texting not working.
Does anyone know the answer to my earlier question about whether the call records screen on the page plus website shows an entry for a text message that is sent, but never makes it to the phone (say the phone is off or in airplane mode)? I am not seeing any entries for the texts that I have sent to my number, so if there would normally be an entry, then that would lead me to believe that there is something at the PP end that is blocking the messages rather than something in my phone.
It looks like the problem with text messaging was something wrong in my phone, rather than something wrong with the Page Plus setup. I installed Handcent SMS and that sends and receives texts just fine. It seemed kind of strange that the default text application could have a problem given that I did an SBF install of Gingerbread and then I don't think that I did anything that could affect the text application, but maybe it uses something that I did touch. So just to diagnose further I uninstalled Handcent and tried the default text app. Now it works. I can't explain it. Maybe installing Handcent changed something in the OS?
