Many carriers offer different plans for iphones, smartphones, feature phones, etc... And if you subscribe to an iPhone plan and use the SIM in a phone that has a non-iPhone IMEI, unpredictable things can happen. Sometimes (on AT&T?) people are automatically upgraded to a different data plan, sometimes (used to be the case on Rogers) you get charged by the kilobytes for data transfers.. and so on.
yes the sim will work, but the problem comes from how the carrier will handle it
Ya, they should standardize it.
Since you live in Japan, do you know why they sell American drinking water on rakuten and is always on top of the rakuten's ランキング
Two words: Radiation fears.
If its coming from the US, you know its not from some radiation covered mountain near Japan. After a news story came out back in april or so that one of the Tokyo water supply depots had detected some radiation in their water, everybody started shunning tap water. Its back to normal now, but many people are still buying bottled water, and the further out of Japan the better.
Never mind the fact that being from the US probably means it has a high chance of having some other chemicals/issues. We bought some 4L containers of american spring water from Costco here (because it was cheap, not to avoid Japanese brands), and it tastes seriously wierd. Like smokey or something.
Its the same with the beef. People are loving US sourced beef now; whereas a few years ago you couldnt give the stuff away because everyone was worried about mad cow disease in US beef.

At Least you didn't get any water that tasted like plastic or has a chalky after-taste
