I was reading and there are 2 types of the Samsung Reality from Verizon Wireless, the U370 is a black phone that was sold through a 3rd party vendor, never at VZW. And the U820 is the Normal Reality sold at a VW retailer. I also read that the black phone, does NOT require a data plan, if this is true can you activate it on a normal verizon plan? I already have unlimited texting, picture messages and video messages, but I want to buy a new phone offline and use it, I have been to verizon when they were selling the red Reality and it was on the feature phones rack, but I just want to make sure which phone is which and thus..
"The Samsung Reality and the Samsung SCH-U370 are in fact very similar devices and the main difference between these two phones is that the Samsung SCH-U370 is not Mobile Broadband Connect (no tethering) capable, also note that the SCH-U370 does not require a data plan. Please keep in mind that the Samsung Reality has been retired and is no longer available. Additionally, the Samsung SCH-U370 is only available from third party retailers and cannot be ordered from Verizon Wireless channels."
We are on a Nationwide family plan, bought the u370 while it was being sold at Costco, and had no problem activating it on our plan.
There were some phones that Verizon said would forever require a data plan such as Alias 2, Rogue, env3, and the Reality. But then last fall some Verizon moderators on the Verizon forum http://community.verizonwireless.com were saying that that data plan requirement had been removed, while a few other moderators would contradict that and say that the data plan requirement was still in place. I don't know where things stand. In the main forum here for Verizon Wireless, there are a lot of knowledgeable Verizon employees; you could try double-checking there on where things stand on the data plan requirment: http://www.howardforums.com/forumdis...rizon-Wireless
And phonearena.com posted that there will be a Samsung u380 coming out soon:
Also, during a conversation here (link), it looks like the status of the u370 is that it's discontinued. So if someone is reading this and has seen a u370 on the shelf, maybe your opportunity to buy it won't last much longer.

I'm sorry; I'm not knowledgable enough about that to answer that.
In the main discussion forum http://www.howardforums.com/forumdis...rizon-Wireless there are a lot of gurus who hopefully will answer that. And I've been pleased with the service I've received from Verizon's customer support department at 1-800-922-0204
