4S Update firmware prior to Jailbreak?

I'm getting ready to jailbreak my 4S. Currently I'm still on the 5.0 (9A334), 1.0.11 version of software. Is it worth updating to 5.01 prior to jailbreaking? I would like the opportunity to unlock in the future but not that critical.

Does it matter whether it's the 9A405 or 9A406 version?

9A406 has much better battery life than 9A405. Personally, I found the 5.0 firmware to have the best overall battery life, but there's no going back to that one!

If you are hoping for an unlock, the official recommendation from the Dev-Team is to stay on 5.0.

You can preserve your bb if you really want to update.

depends entirely on where you live and your signal strength. If you shut off all the silly extra "features" like diagnostic data etc., you may find 5.0 to be pretty decent. OP stated that he would like to be able to unlock. Per Dev-Team, that still the best option for that.
