I am trying to decide what phone to get, as I have heard and read from many people different things. I have heard the Rogue requires the $10 data plan, or Pay as you go, so you can send/recieve picture messages. I also have heard/read that the Reality U370 is a black version and was sold through a 3rd party seller, and did NOT require the data plan to recieve/send picture messages. I have also read that the Reality U820 did and did not, thus mixed reviews. I at one point called the VZW help number and this is what they told me about the Rogue: that the silver ones sometimes require data plans, the blue ones never do, (i've never seen/heard of a blue one,) and that the black Rogues always do. I haven't heard any color differentials with the Reality.
I currently have an unlimited texting/picture messages/video messages plan..the only thing not unlimited is talking minutes. I want to know if the Rogue would work with my plan, or if I would get charged. If so what do ya'll think about the Reality? I would prefer the Rogue it looks nicer, and has a much bigger screen. But I would settle for the Reality.
Any help would be great, I just don't want to be charged, when I already pay so much for unlimited, I currently have the Samsung Intensity II and am looking for a good touchscreen phone, with a slide out keyboard, NO data plan. Thanks!
There are a lot of similiarities in terms of the dimensions, features, and keyboard. So I think you'll have to weigh the pros and cons of the differences. We have the u370, and it's a great phone -- the software is stable and easy to use; the keyboard is great; the battery life is pretty good (2 to 4 days); the screen is easy to read.
These are about the only cons:
- the phone freezes if you have headphones plugged in while you listen to music; the music player functions fine if you use the speakerphone or a bluetooth headset to listen to music
- in my area, there's a soft white noise audible in the background in a quiet room while talking to someone
- the file viewer software displays an error message that it was intended for a model u820; the file viewer works, but you have to put up with having the error message on the screen the whole time
- if you're into watching video files on your phone, the screen isn't a good enough quality -- videos look just "okay" on the phone
Regarding the Rogue, the very high quality screen would make me vote that you take a chance and buy it. But I see two downsides to buying the Rogue
- no warranty; I *think* you would still be entitled to a one year warranty if you bought a u370
- there is so little discussion any more on basic phones anywhere on the internet that I think you are going to have to be stuck being a guinea pig as far as buying the Rogue and finding out the hard way as to whether or not you'll be forced to buy a data plan. A lot of the phone sellers on ebay don't allow returns, so if your budget is such that you can absorb the financial loss if you're stuck with a Rogue that winds up requiring a data plan then I think you should take a chance and gamble on the Rogue.
