Sorry if this has been asked previously but does the iphone 4S have text to speech GPS?
Not natively. The only navigation-type app that the iPhone comes with an iOS-specific stripped down version of Google Maps. But it's very, very basic, and next to useless if you're driving. This was one of the biggest drawbacks to the iPhone after coming from a couple years of Android phones. Google Navigation is amazing, and there's nothing out there that can beat it (especially for the price of free). But there are plenty of text to speech GPS apps that you can purchase in the market that are available at a wide range of prices. I use MotionX Drive, which is $9.99 a year (but you can start off with a 30 day free trial that has all of the features). It's not up to par with Google Navigation on Android, but for the price and the features, it's one of the better navigation apps out there for iOS with text to speech.
I have to agree with Lazybones. There are quite a few really good navigation apps available for the iPhone, including MotionX. I prefere iScobbler, based on the open source maps project. It is free, open source and gets better all the time.
Wasn't it not too long ago that Verizon was including Bing Maps as the default map navigation app on Droids with no way to change back? Isn't Google Maps on Android is part of the suite of closed source Google apps not native to Android, but part of the other Google apps in the suite that require license to be included on Android? I ask, because the Augen Android tablet still being sold at Kmart doesn't have any Google apps on it.
