    Cancelling Prepaid service

I am thinking of cancelling my mom's prepaid and move her to Wind.
Will my mom get a check back for the remaining balance on her account or Fido will just "EAT" the remaining balance up?
She has about $40 left in her account right now.

    Thanks

From what I remember, Fido won't give her the $40 back unless she goes to Fido postpaid.

If she goes to a competing company, she loses her balance so it is best to use almost the entire balance before porting over.
    Fido (monthly plan - personal/data):Novatel Wireless MC950D / Nokia CS-18

Rogers (pay as you go - Canadian prepaid): "Fido" (unlocked) Samsung Nexus-S

Rogers (monthly BIS data plan): unlocked Blackberry Bold 9700

Red Pocket Mobile (US prepaid): unlocked Sony-Ericsson w300i

T-Mobile (US prepaid): unlocked Fido iPhone 3GS 32GB

No Prepaid Providers will give you your prepaid balance back. If you are going to cancel your service you will not be able to port your number. Before porting either use up your balance or consider donating it via text messages to various charities, you can even get a Tax Receipt for income tax purposes at the end of the year.

If you don't want to waste that balance in fidodollars, you could redeem them as 20 bucks airtime into your mum's prepaid account each month for two more months. This way at least you didn't completely waste them You can then port her number out two months later~

I am planning to port my prepaid account out to SpeakOut cos I have really low usage on that account. I'll only keep my other monthly account with Fido.

I think the OP actually has $40 as a prepaid balance, not in Fido Dollars.

As far as I know you can redeem Fido $ for Prepaid Airtime. Example BC Customer needs $22.40 in Fido $ to get $20 in Prepaid Airtime.
