Looks like there are two P970 versions:
HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
I'm thinking of buying one to use with T-mobile USA. By the frequencies, the first should work? Or is there something else to watch out for?
the byline on this review says you don't get 3G in the USA http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/LG...-Review_id2737
If that's true, I don't know why the phone supports the 1700 band, who else in the world other than T-mobileUSA uses 1700?
I asked LG Chat support and they said if gsmarena (!) says it supports 1700 then it does and there is only one version. Well I think that guy was totally wrong, and my phone's box is correct Btw the one I got is an unlocked Vodafone/Portugal version.
One more tidbit, I looked up the FCC license data via Phonescoop, and it doesn't show any 1700mhz frequencies for the P970! Now, there could be a different version for the US and elsewhere, I suppose. But maybe this elusive 900/1700/2100 variant is just a dream... a typo on LG's website that perpetuated across the internet? The search continues...
I wanted a very thin & light smartphone, big screen, Android, unlocked, works overseas (do a lot of travelling), front and rear cameras. At under $300 p970 is one of the better deals for those requirements IF it really does support AWS 1700MHz 3g.
WHy would you buy a phone from overseas if you intended to use it on a US network? You have no tech support whatsoever. Doesn't make sense to me.
I use International unlocked phones all the time. Many people do.
They generally perform better and have non of the carrier bloatware. Besides, you can get more support searching forums and Google, than you can get with Tech Support.
