Nokia Lumia 710: $199 no contract + $50 Monthly4G SIM = $250
I read on another forum that the Lumia 710 is ringing up at $349 - $150 instant discount = $199 when you purchase a $50 or greater prepaid activation on the Monthly4G plans. It's not advertised and it doesn't seem like many people know about it so I was a little hesitant to just walk into a T-Mo store and pick it up.
Luckily a friend of mine works at T-Mobile so I asked him to add the Lumia 710 and a $50 prepaid activation to see what the register did. Sure enough, the discount came up so I told him I'll take one.
So it came out to be $200 for the phone, plus $50 for the activation kit = $250. I also had to purchase another micro SIM because I'm using this phone on my family plan (they activate the micro SIM that comes with the phone) for $20, so my actual cost is $270 + tax. Full retail on postpaid AND prepaid is $350 + tax so I saved $80. Not bad, and the phone is definitely slick.
Note: the Lumia 710 uses a micro SIM, so you'll have to buy an adapter if you want to switch between this phone and any other phone that uses a full sized SIM.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

Primary: T-Mobile Galaxy S II & HTC Radar 4G| Nokia Lumia 710: 3 lines FT 500 + SMS/MMS + myFaves + $20.00 preferred data (5GB), plus corp discount and $10/mo loyalty credit @ $87/mo tax inclusive Secondary: VM Optimus Slider: 300min + SMS/MMS + unlimited data @ $25/mo, Samsung R455C: TracFone PAYG
So if I understand it correctly, this won't work for new T-mo users on the $30 5GB plan unless one 1) buys a new SIM card and 2) throws away $50 on prepaid credit.

Just a thought, if you end up with a $50 credit on a line that you aren't actually going to use... Donate the money away (list of charities http://mobilegiving.org/?page_id=43) and at least it'll go to a good cause
That poster indicates as long as you buy a $50 pin, the price of the Lumia is discounted to $199. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. If they'll give me a $50 card along with the phone without activation I'll take it.
This is great! I've been wanting to buy one for my wife, this means I'll probably run up there later today and get one so we don't have to renew her contract.
Sorry it dose not work, I just went into the store and they would not let me buy an 50 pin they wanted to apply it to the monthly 4G plan.
Umm - nobody said you could buy a $50 PIN. The title of the post and all of the deal details I read specifically said the discount is available when you buy the phone along with a $50 Monthly 4G SIM activation kit. I called my local store earlier and they confirmed this deal was still going on, so others should not misunderstand what manofstill2012 said to mean this deal is dead.
To be fair, I quoted the tmonews article which had a commentor 'UglyPete' state that you COULD just buy a $50 PIN (or more) and get the phone at the discount rate. However, no one has reported success at this, and its not surprising to me that they want you to activate.
When I was in a Tmobile store yesterday, they had a lot of phones on discount ranging from $20-$50 off their list price with the fine print saying 'With $50 4G Monthly Activation'. So I'm assuming this is of the same promotion.
Yeah i tried to buy the phone and get the deal but they wanted me to to to pay 50 for the monthly plan so I asked if I could just buy an 50 refill pin and still get the discount they said no.

The commenter didn't know what they're talking about, whereas the article did. That happens quite often. Then again, sometimes articles are written by clueless people too, so I digress. *sigh*
Found another post where a so called employee says they just sold a lumia for two hundred with regular 50. Refill no activation. Obviously ymmv but I hope I get lucky
GSM is the best. Android (Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Sidekick 4G), iOS (iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch) and Windows Phone (Samsung Focus) devices, switching on demand!
Even if the register applies the discount with just a refill, that's highly YMMV that they'll sell it like that. I am curious but it's a sure thing with an activation and I'm pleased.
The Lumia sure is nice. Good sound quality during calls, an excellent speakerphone, and a responsive screen. I can't wait for higher end Lumias and more Windows phones in general.
Interesting development: just looked at my receipt and noticed it says "$150 off with qualifying kit/refill" - I'm tempted to go and grab another one with a $50 refill if it works! Hmm.
