    well since metro pcs have decided to take 3g and expand it to all their markets im assuming yes 1x soon will be obsolete.

    Well I hope so I do get 3g for a few seconds but my phone always switches back to 1x and I dont know why

    Metro pcs Is moving forward, that means new & more LTE & 4g phones that's where the technology Is at. 1x Is so late 90's very obsolete, how can u really operate a Android phone on that technology.

    once volte is solid and fully in place, then most likely yes... it might take a while though... i remember for many many years (about 10 or so) verizon kept stating they were going to be completely digital. it took them about that to finally do it... there was analog until the fcc made it go down...

    As long as there is 3G CDMA, there will be 1X with it, as it will fall back to 1X if 3G is not available. 1X is what we have in the Extended Home areas.

    1X will be around until Every CDMA Network goes LTE/voLTE. 1x is still the gold standard when it come to voice networks in regards to uses per channel/cell/tower. Long story short one can have a fully functioning phone with 1x, not so much with Evdo or LTE at this time.
