    Yep, you have to pay Sprint's fees, which is $1.50, plus any real taxes you might have to pay.

    No reason they charge us for this and no reason for the device to have a phone number.

    The phone number thing was an addition around 2009--I suddenly noticed a new number on my account. It was based on the physical location of the Airave at that time.

    Prior to 2009, there was no number.

    Total opposite experience here. Airvana was weaker, had texting issues, dropped calls, and did not hand off as well. Also data speeds were poor. I think the Samsung 2nd generation unit is easily the best of the three.
