Thought I'd start this thread for people to share any info on AT&T's 2012 network plans. I have nothing official yet. Just the rumored 2012 HSPA+ network overlay. Hopefully T will come out with some news soon.
Haven't seen much yet. AT&T is doing the usual press releases now with how much they've spent in 2011 on upgrades. They do show on their website that they plan the same $20 billion in investments this year with about $10 billion of that going to wireless upgrades (includes the 4G LTE). They use to announce plans in march slash April for the year for state by state but they got away from that last year it seems. If they are doing away with Edge and everything to 3G that would be excellent. I can live with 3G speeds but not Edge coverage.
Evidently he is one of the people living in the huge swaths of EDGE-only service in the U.S. that people deny exist, despite all the evidence to the contrary. And maybe he is in one of the many areas where there is no alternative to choose from. Evidently he is in one of those areas that AT&T feels isn't necessary to upgrade, like away from an interstate and not in a metro area, which some on here say should never be served at all because y'know, everyone in the country lives on interstates and in the big cities.

Rumors are just rumors or vague announcements to increase coverages, until you start seeing random signals that don't belong there.
AT&T reps or CS fall into the former, their answers will vary depending who ask.

I talked to an AT&T RAN Engineer a few weeks ago who works in my area and he said that the majority of NE MI would be 3G by Q4. Also had reps tell me the same. So it looks pretty promising this year
