Has Sprint even hinted where the first LTE markets will be? I have an upgrade and I'm debating to use it for an iPhone or getting something off of CL. I have no idea when NJ will see it. To be honest I'm starting to wonder if the next iPhone will even have LTE.

Not just hinted, they've announced Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Atlanta thus far.

I can't believe no one caught this, not to blast you, but your riding those 3G waves no matter who your carrier is if you have an iPhone.

I myself went the craigslist route a couple of months ago to snag up a GSII for now. I spent $300 on it when they were selling for $300 with 2 year contract and it was only 2 weeks old. Definitely a better route with LTE so close... Plus you could flip your GSII in the summer and buy you a LTE phone then.

I would prefer lte over wimax for a few reasons but mainly that it seems more future proof although I don't know enough about wimax to comment too much on it.

I'd wait till after LTE is available in your area first. Or at least till Sprint has built up a larger LTE network. By that time, they'll probably have a more powerful phone, anyway.

I'm not sure if my post was unclear, you misread my post or if I misread yours.

I was saying that I used an "iPhone over VZW LTE" to convey that I preferred an iPhone over any VZW LTE device. I am well aware the iPhone is 3G on both VZW & Sprint.

It was really meant to show that an iPhone over any WiMax device would be an absolute no brainer, especially since sooo many people (myself included) would pick an iPhone over any VZW LTE device [and of course, VZW LTE >>>> WiMax]

    Verizon's 3G network. ............................................ AT&T's 3G network.

    Verizon's 4G network.

If you want the speed then I would consider staying with WiMax. What ever works best for you. You might not get LTE for several years so you might be stuck on 3G or Wimax until then. I think it's difficult to say when you will get LTE. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for my upgrade. Hopefully in 8 months when I can upgrade there will be more info on LTE.

Sprint is not updating WiMax though, so wouldn't it be better to go with LTE?

How often do you upgrade? 6 months? 1 year?

When will Sprint have LTE service in your area?

These same types of questions were raised a few years ago and many markets still never got WiMAX. If you upgrade to the latest cutting edge high performance handset then I guess it doesn't matter. But if it revolves around 4G, then it may take some second thoughts. I'm not sure if/what markets Sprint plans to launch this year beyond what they've mentioned.

Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) said last week that it will launch FDD LTE service on its 1900 MHz spectrum by mid-2012. By the end of 2012, Sprint will cover 176 million POPs with 4G, a figure that includes 123 million LTE POPs, 120 million WiMAX POPs and 67 million POPs that will overlap. By the end of 2013 Sprint expects to have 250 million LTE POPs covered and will continue filling in smaller markets with LTE at the beginning of 2014.
