Does anyone know if I can get a new Number from Straight Talk now and then port in the old number later? The link at straighttalk.com only is applicable to porting in a number WHILE activating a new phone/service.

Has anyone transferred a number to StraightTalk that belongs in a different geographical area than the one you're currently living in? I recently moved from WI to IL, and Sprint allowed me to keep my old WI number. Now that I am switchging to StraightTalk, I want to keep that same old WI number. StraightTalk's website seems to imply that I cannot port a number from a different area. This seems strange, because then what's the use of number portability if you can't keep it whereever you go?

#1 Does this mean ST no longer cares that my E71 SIM is in an iPhone?

#2 Is there a difference in performance between using E71 SIM and the new ST SIM? I certainly don't mind shelling out $14.99 to get better performance, not to mention selling off my E71s.

And most importantly,

#3 Based on this thread (AT&T explains 2GB throttling of unlimited data plans), does this mean no more blacklisting for excessive usage? That instead you'll just get throttled? Will this apply to ST?

One last question -

Does an AT&T iPhone have to be unlocked to use the BYOD SIMs?

#1. id say no, straight talk got a little more money from you, and are providing you with same service, im looking to sell my e71 anyways and just buy a sim.

#2 according to others on this thread doesnt seem so, same speeds etc, and this sim seems to allow access to tmobiles network as well (with different apn)

I have been messing with the iphone3g, 3gs, iphone4 and 4s
the speeds are similar to regional AT&T
in some cases believe it or not- it went up
I got the fastest speed seen on my iphone4s, 5 and a 1/2 Mbps, just once did my AT&T service in my iPhone4s barely reach 5Mbps!?

just did a FaceTime over 3g test...on iphone4 and 4s, using face break. The good news is that the video connection was seamless, no lag, perfect, My wife thought we were still on AT&T.

Virgin Mobile user about to make a switch but I have a couple of questions.

I heard a commercial on the radio for straight talk that says your first 250mb is at 3g speed and then you get throttled. I read another topic saying it goes into effect in March. Is that true for this service?

Will a samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket work with this service?

I cannot definitively answer the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket question as I am not a phone guru, but:
- If it is locked to AT&T then yes, with the AT&T BOYP sim
- If it is locked to T-Mobile than yes, with the T-Mobile BOYP sim
- If it is unlocked then yes, with either choice
The speeds it gets will depend on the frequencies it uses, and according to ST 850 and 1900 are required for 3G.

The 250MB @ 3G and then throttled that goes into effect at the end of March is for Walmart Family Mobile which IS NOT the same thing as Straight Talk. Unfortunately, nobody knows the data cap that ST will have for BOYD or if it will be a hard cap with no more data or a soft cap with throttled data.

For that matter, nobody here "knows" the data cap for the E71 smartphone that has been available on ST for over a year, but it is known that users have been kicked off for using lots of data in a month and for using lots of data in a day. The "safe" rule of thumb given here is < 70 MB/day and < 2 GB/month... others say you are fine with < 100 MB/day.

It is known that the AT&T sim card for BYOP has almost the same model number as the E71 sim, the new AT&T BYOP sim just has an extra "B" at the end. My best guess is that it is exactly the same only with a different model number to help tracfone monitor things which SEEMS to indicate that the AT&T BYOP sim will have the exact same caps as the existing E71 sim. This is only conjecture.

I will soon (scheduled for delivery Monday) be getting 2 T-Mobile BYOP sims and I have no idea how the data caps will work with that, but I plan on telling my son and wife to stick in the "safe" range mentioned above. I also have an extra E71 sim that I am going to try to get ST to activate on an unlocked phone that my wife is currently using instead of her E71. I will use that phone.

I will update everyone with ease of transferring existing ST numbers to BOYP (or lack thereof) and speed tests ASAP, but it may be Wednesday before I have the time to test and record the results.

A couple of people have transferred ST numbers to BYOP sim very quickly doing it online with no problems.

Yeah apple make a fine product to work on prepaid.
