The Straight Talk Unlimited Plans MAY NOT be used for any other purpose. Examples of prohibited uses include, without limitation, the following: (i) continuous mobile to mobile or mobile to landline voice calls; (ii) automated text or picture messaging to another mobile device or e-mail address; (iii) uploading, downloading or streaming of audio or video programming or games; (iv) server devices or host computer applications, including, but not limited to, Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, automated machine-to-machine connections or peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing; or (v) as a substitute or backup for private lines or dedicated data connections. This means, by way of example only, that checking email, surfing the Internet, downloading legally acquired songs, and/or visiting corporate intranets is permitted, but downloading movies using P2P file sharing services and/or redirecting television signals for viewing on laptops is prohibited. A person engaged in prohibited uses may have his/her service terminated without notice or a refund.

Guys and gals, that's a deal breaker for me. I do stream internet radio most days and I pacify my 18 mos old at restaurants by letting him watch YouTube sesame street episodes. According to ST Terms and Conditions, those types of data usage are prohibited. Oh well.

Tracfone is wise enough to understand that if they posted actual data limits then a whole lot more data would be consumed. Many people who now hold back would push it right to the limit in an effort to get their full monies worth.

And as the last post points out; if you follow the rules, the term Unlimited is totally out of place, because you are limited by the rules.

I think ST knows most people a using Pandora and YouTube on their unlimited plan.

Glad you posted those things. I don't partake much in any of those activities except for the abuse of minutes which i'm guilty of in a major way. I also do use a service that allows me to take photos and auto upload it to a cloud in the background but not like I'm taking tons of photos like a news man.

So seems the plan is perfect for me. Imma big music lover. But I like having the songs on my device, better quality. Rarely use pandora as it seems not to learn my taste in tunes, plays random stuff sometimes, as well as contains too much commercial interruption. Gmusic I'm more a fan of and sometimes I'd like access to that since it has cache to device option compared to stream only.

I looked at the net 10 facebook page and found something interesting. With their android cell phones you cannot use youtube unless you are on wi-fi. I wonder if the same will apply to straight talks android cell phones as well. And there new unlimited data talk and text sim cards 4 unlocked gsm phones. I'm also curious to find out how many people get these unlocked gsm sim cards and use them in their tablets.

They may tell you to only use YouTube on WiFi, but in reality it will work over 3G just like anything else. That is how they try to justify having the restriction in the Terms of Service and then selling phones with pre-loaded video streaming apps. Even the Nokia's come with a YouTube app.

As has been stated many times before, if you use your phone like a average person then you have nothing to worry about. Watch YouTube if you want, just don't watch it all day. Monitor your usage, if you are getting over 100 mb per day then you are pushing it. If that is not enough data for you then a different provider and plan is probably best.

What are the differences on ST and Net10. Which would be better in a 33470 area code?
    Thanks

Newbie here. Thanx for the great information. I am currently a ST customer. My wife has the Nokia E71 unlimited plan, my son has a feature phone unlimited plan, and I have a feature phone all you need plan.

My wife has been bugging me for an android, my son has broken his display and cannot text, and I am now needing more than 1000 minutes/30 days. I just bought 3 androids (Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant unlocked, Samsung Ehibit ii, and HTC G2) planning on moving to Walmart Family Mobile, but now I have to decide between ST and WFM.

As far as I can tell, WFM will cost $75 up front for activation kits and will cost $115/month plus tax for unlimited talk/text, 250 MB 3G data shared, and unlimited 2G data.

As far as I can tell, ST will cost $30 up front for SIM cards (I can swap the E71 SIM into the unlocked Vibrant) and $135/30 days plus tax for unlimited talk/text, probably 2GB data each at AT&T 3G on the Vibrant and T-Mobile "4G" on the Exhibit ii and G2.

Just want to confirm that I have all my bases covered here and my analysis is correct before I take the choices to my wife for her input.

IMO the $25 AT&T 2GB data for Tablet devices plan would work out better. If your tablet handles Tmo frequencies, the Walmart Tmo prepaid 100mins talk 5GB data plan might be cost effective at $30. (just throwing those out there)

Straight Talk seems to be some deal with Walmart to offer discounted cell phone service (Tracfone/Net10 in this case). It's similar to their (Walmart's) Family Mobile that is like Tmo's prepaid for $5 less~ Is my guess.

The decision depends a lot on the amount and breakdown of your useage. If you are basicly a light user consider Tracfone If you are a medium user consider NT. If you are a heavier user consider ST. There is overlap between them. You will probably be better off with ST. Slightly better choices of phones and the unlimited plan is $5 cheaper.

You may want to ask more specific questions.

This is my experience YMMV. Coming from Simple Mobile, a Tmobile MVNO, I've been looking for an alternative as well, because of their "up to 3G" data being capped at 119k speed. The sales person at Walmart says that most of the other employees on the WFM plan are happy and enjoy better data speeds. Here's the issue, in my last days of being a Sprint customer, using an EVO 4G, hardly using it, I was still hitting 250mb 3G data usage alone (could never get a reliable 4G connection). Edge 2G on Simple Mobile has been frustrating, almost useless, to say the least.

Just a thought, have you considered MetroPCS, Cricket or Boost Mobile, if those are available in your area, as options? EDIT: considering you have the Androids already, this isn't a feasible option.

Some of the decision will also be dependent on what type of data connection each of those Androids will get on WFM.

I would really research how well the WFM (Tmobile) coverage is in your service area to compare with your experiences with ST.

That's just my opinion, hope it helps.

Recommend you wait to see the specifics that come out on the buy-a sim program due to start tomorrow, although it may take weeks for reports to come in. Is the WalMart service a family plan? A family plan for three mak be cheaper than 3 regular plans. Tracfone does not offer any quantity user discounts.

Unlike other AT&T MVNOs (ie H2O, Red Pocket, or even GoPhone itself), Straight Talk has unthrottled 3G/HSPA speeds. The only caveat is your data on ST is proxied through AT&T servers in Chicago which does increase latency and thus reduce download speeds a bit. I've had an AT&T Inspire 4G and a Straight Talk Inspire 4G side-by-side before, the AT&T Inspire was faster by ~0.5mbps.

ST and N10 byod sims are going to hurt the other carriers with their pricepoints. I see the only way for others to hold their own are price adjustments to at least approach ST/N10 or unique offerings (better coverage by Page Plus/Verizon mvnos), lower non unlimited price points (Air Voice talk/text $35, H20 $25 plan, etc) and paygo.
