Nokia N95 8GB on any other network besides Rogers (In Canada)??????
hi,
i have an overseas unlocked Nokia N95 8GB that i have been using through Rogers for the past few years. In a few months i will be moving to a part of Canada that unfortunately has no Rogers service. I was wondering if there is any other Canadian network through which i can use this phone? i have already tried to activate it on the Bell and Telus networks with no luck.
You out of luck with that one, it's can only use GSM with Rogers/Fido, and no others that I would know. It's HSDPA frequency is 2100 and no one suports that in Canada. Is there any other providors in your area other that Belus?
unfortunately the only cell phone providers in the area that i will be going are Bell, Telus, Virgin and Sprint. I don't think that using the n95 will be an option...but i was wondering about another N-series nokia phone...perhaps the n91? or are they all gsm?
It depends - if you currently get 3G on Rogers with your N95, you will be able to use it with with any other Canadian UMTS networks. If you needed another Nokia for the new network, any of these would be fine, just note that several have North American & International variants, and you will need the NA ones for networks other than Rogers: http://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3...e=0&sFreeText=
Wow Sprint, I'm guessing that your near the US boarder. Any how, if your into the N95, the most recent N series that would fit you is the N8. It doesn't have a slide, or buttons, but it does all that the N95 would do, just a bit better.
The N91 is a couple years older than the N95, and has the same issue, but with less GSM bands avalible
My Rogers N95 8GB crashes repeatedly with a Koodo SIM card. It works fine on Virgin though. Unbranded firmware.
Unsurprisingly, it also works fine on 7-11, as that's a Rogers MVNO. 7-11, Petro Can, Chatr and Fido will work with any N95 regardless of the region.
Telus, Bell, Virgin, Koodo and Solo would all depend on whether it has the right frequency support and whether it crashes.
Please don't PM me asking questions that could very easily be asked publicly.
Band I/1 = IMT, 2100 (rarely wrongly referred to as 1900/2100)
Band II/2 = PCS, 1900 (never wrongly referred to as 1800/1900)
Band III/3 = DCS, 1800 (never wrongly referred to as 1700/1800)
Band IV/4 = AWS, 1700 (often wrongly referred to as 1700/2100)
Band V/5 = CLR, 850
Band VIII/8 = GSM, 900
ok, so i bought a Virgin Mobile SIM card and activated it...i put it in my phone and go to network settings but when i select "VIRGIN" i get a "no access" message. i've also tried this with Bell and Telus SIM cards with the same result. any ideas???
i've tried all 3 Network modes..Dual Mode, UMTS and GSM with a Manual and an Automatic search....nothing.
As previously mentioned, overseas N95's wont work on anything but Rogers/Fido. Unless your product code is RM-421 (or RM-160 for the non-8GB version) you're out of luck.
