    Welcome newbie to Ho-Fo.

Prior to making blanket statements about others user experience do some research.

Many here have been with many of the carriers, its what we do.

Read the horror stories in the ST forum where you have your service and stop trolling in ours.

But also read the happy stories of the people who dumped SLOOOOOOOOOOW VM & are happy with ST...Like myself & others. It's all about how much data you use. I cant imagine how people use over 2GB in a month! I do agree though, ST should have an actual written rule in place as well as a throttle, NOT a kick you result!

Pick your poison, inconsistent data with no threat of getting booted or better data with an unknown policy allowance.

Sprint can't execute Network Vision fast enough but at least they are moving on it. It's a massive undertaking that will not be finished till YE/2013 which is some time away. Once completed, I'd take the EVO 3D on VM or EVO Design on Boost any day.

I defecected from virgin 2 months ago because of higher prices, horrid speeds, and the new throttle crap. I went to straight talk using no data the first month, and my second month is almost up and i havent used 2 gig yet and I got the dreaded call.

T mobile is not an option for me so I am coming back to virgin mobile at least I wont surf with paranoia, i can stream pandora and youtube, ( which i never used pandora on st. and ocassionly used youtube).

I am out 15 bucks for a sim, luckily i can take back the avail i bought, and i lost 3 bucks for a case. I refuse to support st false advertising any more.

Will i miss the coverage and speeds, YES. Will I miss the paranoia and dishonesty NO!!

Yeah...VM's network is slow as molasses but at least it has a clear defined limit on how much data you can use. On ST, I'd constantly be worried about the ridiculous 100mb a day or whatever arbitrary number they set the limit at (which they won't say). Also don't like the fact that this isn't mentioned anywhere on their website, truly dishonest right there. The only people that even know about the limits are HOFO-ers.

They probably thought that you would be a minor data user, after they saw how much data you used the first month. Then, when they realized that you use a bit more, they kicked you out.

Honestly, the only way not to sign a contract, but still get access to the AT&T network without being ripped off, would be Red Pocket. You get 2 GB a month and can use it any way you want.

The problem is that they charge you $60 a month. If I wasn't in a T-Mobile 4G area, I would have gone with them, because I don't like anyone telling me how I'm allowed to use my data.

There is nothing to debate within your post, nothing was intelligent about it just pure speculation.

Your provided no facts but merely an opinion that users comment on here about ST without ever using them. It's simply not true.

As you can see just 3 posts above yours another unsuspecting customer got the good old ST data hammer dropped on them.

You are a newbie here on Ho-Fo, that's a fact not an insult.

Okay... Normally I don't do this and I apologize to everyone for the interruption to the topic, but I just wanted to clear a couple things up.

    billm261:

I don't know you, and I can tell by your inaccurate statements about me that you don't know me either, so I just wanted to make a few observations...

You claim I don't provide facts, yet being a ST customer and providing personal observation about that service is indeed a method of providing facts. You on the other hand rehash the statements of others and provide them as if they are facts for all.

I never said that people have not been cancelled or warned about their data usage. I just made a statement that these cancellations have been overblown by people such as yourself. I have read the horror stories of the few that have been cancelled for data use. I have also read the many comments from happy customers that have experiences simiar to mine. No one knows how complete the stories by the customers are. Many times, even the customer themselves may not be aware of the full story. Computers can have errors (and a smartphone is indeed a type of computer) and the processes on those computers can error as well. It is a true shame when someone loses the account they have paid for, and perhaps if ST customer service was any good, we could more accurately figure out if these issues are indeed customer error, or an error in the hardware, apps, system, carrier, or provider. But the fact remains, no one can be sure how, why, or when ST decides to cancel an account until ST themselves chooses to make a statement on such.

Just because I have not been signed up to this site for about 7 years nor have I posted over 2000 posts, does not mean that I have not read the various posts in multiple forums and done adequate research about the topics I have commented on. And just because I am a "newbie" on "your" forum, does not mean I have not used multiple carriers in the past, or even that I have not used VM for many years in the recent past.

For you information, you're right... Being a newbie isn't a bad thing, because after all, we have all been newbies at one time or another. But calling someone a troll for trying to provide a viewpoint different from yours is very inaccurate and in my opinion unnecessary. I was under the impression that this thread was for former VM customers who had defected to other carriers. If that is indeed the case, that would seem to make you the troll, considering you are making comments about other carriers you have not used while still being a customer of VM.

You seem happy with your VM account and I'm glad for that. I really wish I could've remained happy with my VM account, because when it worked, it worked well, and my OV was a beast, but unfortunately, that did not last. I even lived with the horrible coverage and nearly unusable data speeds for a while, hoping it would get better. The final straw was acually the numberous outages VM would have in my area, effecting data, text and even voice many times. Since I've had my ST account using an AT&T phone, I have not had any issues with data speed, coverage (even out in the sticks while visiting family which I never expected to get coverage on prepaid), or outages. I have not changed my data usage from when I was a VM customer, and have not even received a warning, and from what I've read, I would be considered an average Android user, so I tend to assume, based on my personal experiences, that ST is indeed a very good alternative to VM. Is it the best? I don't know... I haven't tried them all. But based on price and experience, it would seem it must be at least one of the best.

If you were offering your personal observation and experience great.

BUT, you don't come into a forum and dismiss others posts by saying something to the effect of "those that complain about ST have never used them". You don't know that.

It's by no means a personal attack but rather letting you know that your statement was far from accurate in broad terms. Maybe you don't have a smart phone, don't stream video or Pandora. Have no need for navigation. You know, all the things a smart phone does but with restrictions or severe limits on ST.

Sadly it's not just ST that has big brother looking over your shoulder while using data. Most sneaky MVNO carriers who claim to offer unlimited do it.

Your right, VM has data issues. I just today sold my 25.00 plan because of it.

There is no clear cut choice when leaving a carrier, many variables will come into play. The draconian data policies on ST (and others) need to be considered.

I wasn't dismissing any valid posts. I was making an observation about how everyone who had bad comments about ST on this thread up to that point were basing their opinion purely on the comments of others and not on personal observation. Those who had actually used ST were reporting good experiences. I do not see how this observation was inaccurate.

And if you had done your research, you would see that my profile says that I use a Samsung Captivate Glide... Which is, infact, a smartphone. Not to mention that I even said in my last post that I'm an average android user. As an average android user, not only do I use a smartphone, but I would also reasonably use streaming services, navigation, and other services that I have yet to have reason to restrict or place severe limits on my usage of. Now if you're done trying to belittle my observations with your ridiculous accusations, I'll be going now...

For those who got notice of overuse on ST, what exactly is the data used according to ST? And what is the data used according to your smartphone. Hopefully there was an actual app installed that monitors the data used, and not just based on memory, which can be wildly inaccurate for some people who have no idea how much data certain apps & services use).

I used watchdog 3g and cut off my data when not in use. I used on a daily basis 100mb there were a couple of days i went to 120, but rectified it by not using as much the following day. My month is up Monday, and I was around 1.5 gig. ST would not give me an actual cap per day or month when ask. They said they were unlimited, however they said that customers were supposed to use wifi for youtube and downloading apps. That is not unlimited because you are using your own resource not theirs.

This is what they told me. I told them that before I signed up I inquired about youtube "data usage" (not mobile web) and I recieved an email that "data" was now unlimited on all of their plans. They didn't know what to say and went back to script reading. Bottome line Unlimited is false advertisement by ST. So much so that their reps can't even give you a straight answer because they say they don't know what the limit is.

    I went, I saw, I came back.

Maybe it's time to read and reread the StraightTalk offer about data, in the most pessimistic light possible. How those stinkers even know which app is being used for what?
