H2o, ST and RP all have a rep for terrible CS.
RP could not even port my number over correctly and it was all done online. Well, 2 days later and 2 hours total on the phone trying to resolve it I contacted them once again to stop the port and notified Sprint not to do it.
If the cost difference is just a couple of bucks more, I want US based CS that English is their first language.
80 a month with a 25% discount is not a bad deal for postpaid.
Add me to the list of defectors, Just cancelled my plan, getting the $45 unlimited plan, and using a iphone 4. Such a better option than the crap devices VM has.
I took my first steps to leaving today as well. I bought an iPhone 4S off Craigslist today, and ordered a Straight Talk SIM last night that I assume will be here by Thursday. My month ends on the 21st. However, I realized yesterday that I've already paid for the next month of service. I always go ahead and top off and pay for the next month when I pay all my other bills for the month. I'm assuming there's nothing I can do to get that back. Planning to let a friend who is out of work and doesn't have a phone use it since it's already paid for. One question, I also have a credit on my account from where others joined VM and put me as referral. I think I have about $15 in credit. Is there any way for me to transfer that to my wife's account, who is planning on staying with VM for the moment (until we played with SIRI a bit, now she wants one of those, LOL)? If there is a way to transfer that credit, or even from the month I've already paid for that hasn't yet started, I'd love to know about it. And if worse comes to worse, and ST doesn't work out, I won't have canceled my other service, and can return until the next better thing comes along.
If you have not yet "paid" for the following month, but the credit is just showing as a "balance" in your account, then as long as your name/address is on your wife's account you can call VM customer service and ask to transfer the whole balance to her account. There is a special department that handles these requests, that they will transfer you to. If the name/address on the 2 accounts is not the same, they will not do the transfer for you, but you can change the information beforehand...
I'm a double defector:
1) Defected once from a $25 Beyond Talk plan. Did not like minutes limit, data was not that fast, and most importantly phone selection (at the time) was poor. Moved to PagePlus. Got hooked on data so moved again to Simple Mobile. Now want short code support and to use an iPhone so defecting again to Straight Talk. I love no contract.
2) Defected again from a $40 Mobile Broadband plan. Speed was slow, coverage was poor and device kept deactivating requiring calls to CS or just waiting up to a day for it to work again. Moved to TMobile where coverage is admittedly not as wide as VM but when I am covered speeds are much better, and use the $30 plan to get 5gbs (same as VM) through an Android hotspot, just a bit bigger than my mifi device.
Still have my mifi device with $0 balance for a few more months, imagine the grandfathered plan is not a bad backup, so plan to re-up before it expires to hopefully keep it as an option just in case.
Yeah, second thoughts here too. Really hate to get rid of $23/mo for unlimited data (even though I use less than 200mb). My OV has been flawless, and can be a hotspot with the press of a button. I use my Galaxy Player 99% of the time, so it just feels like I'm throwing $23 away... but I would want at least a Paygo phone at $6-$8/mo, so now I'm only down to throwing $15/mo away... maybe I'll stick with my OV until it craps out (or until a good 4.5" phone is available on VM).
I'm strongly considering buying an Exhibit II on T-Mobile's $30 plan when my Virgin month is up on the 26th. I would've liked to have gotten more than a year out of my OV, but all the little problems with VM reception and data speed have been adding up, and with the new 600 MHz phones, it seems more and more that Sprint doesn't care much about the brand anymore. And if I end up not liking Teemo, I can always take the phone to Straight Talk.
Hate to sound like a broken record, but some phones I'd recommend considering:
1. HTC Sensation 4G
2. LG G2x (Also a 4G-capable phone)
3. HTC Radar 4G (WP7 phone)
I don't know all that much about the Sensation. But the devs on XDA have recently released the beta version of Ice Cream Sandwich. It won't be long before they finetune it and smooth down all the bugs cropping up.
You should be able to find an LG G2x on craigslist for $250 if you can go that high...that is the phone i am going to keep my eyes open for due to really good hardware specs that will make the phone more than ample for day to day tasks, along with gaming and video playbacks. I currently have the Optimus V and that 600mhz processor is really starting to show it's age as i get more and more current apps....with a dual-core phone, it should be able to handle everything you throw at it for the next year
