I used all of 200MB last month on ST, but even the thought of firing up the YouTube app sends chills down my spine, much less Pandora.

I know the naysayers will pummel VM to the ground, and VM does deserve some of that, but overall it's still a great value for what it is.

Interesting. Have you posted on ST forums and gotten more info on this matter? How often do people get kicked off? 200mb is nothing. I doubt they'd kick you off for using that much!

You can use Youtube or Pandora without getting cut off as long as you don't abuse it. You can also use way more than 200 Mb a month. All I know, I couldn't hardly use Youtube when I was on VM from the slow data speeds requiring constant buffer pauses (or worse i.e. outages cutting off data for days)... Now Youtube works just fine on ST.

It is the data speeds what kills VM. That is why I left. 300 minutes were marginal as well, but I could get by monitoring it closely. So with VM I had to watch minutes, with ST I have to watch data. So.......

Agreed with all of the above. I miss not having to be discretionary with data more than anything, but on VM I always went over my 300 minutes, so it's a bit of a wash IMO.

I haven't personally, but it seems the stories of people getting booted pop up fairly often. I worry because if my usage patterns change, ST may flag me for abuse.

Wait. Has ST ever issued you a warning? And how much data were those people using?

Finally got a HTC Sensation. Missed a few good deals, met a bunch of scammers. Ended up overpaying a little for a slightly beat up phone. Good thing the battery door covers just about everything, so it'll be close to like-new after I get a new one.

Went from 1000ms 50kbps up and down to 170ms 500/200 in my apartment. Get 3mbps if I go outside, and 9mbps if I go into Manhattan (still get 50kbps outside with vm, but almost 1mbps in the city).

Native voip works pretty well with pbxes w/ gv trunk (was glitchy as hell on the Triumph. Talkatone was the only one that worked well for me with the MT).

Will have to see how good voip is over hspa, although I can definitely see being able to make most long calls over voip, so the 100 minutes isn't a bit deal.

Now to figure out how I get my vm number ported to gv. Got a spare tmobile activation kit, so I might try a port in and out without refilling

Not sure. I still lurk mostly in the VM forums to see if anything new is happening. No warning yet, but by what I've read, sometimes you don't even get that.

Hmmm. I'd try to call to get more info if I were in your position. If not, I'd consider staying with VM and at least see how good their WiMax network is.

TM is good enough for me for now.

Straight Talk is not the best alternative to VM especially for those that enjoy using data with no worries

Actually, I read everything that has been posted on the ST forum since the BYOD program started in early Feb., and not one person has posted that they were kicked off without a warning. You do have to watch your data, but the limits are largely to keep to under 100MB a day and 2GB a month. I've been with ST 2 1/2 months now, and since I'm in wifi most of the time at work and home and the gym, I haven't used more than about 500-600MB a month. And that's with not even watching my data all that much. Again, I'm in wifi much of the time. But to be paranoid while only using 200MB in a month is wholly unnecessary. Read some in the ST forums and educate yourself on the real risks. They're (we're) pretty friendly over there.

I find it funny, I always thought I used alot of data but it turns out.... After getting data counter apps, turns out i dont even use 50mb a day. All I gotta say is these people who go over must be on their phones most of the day.

But the funniest thing is, a phone today is not used as a calling device much anymore, kind of ironic.

Seems to really vary as to how much data you can use a day!

That's the #1 reason why I haven't jumped aboard the ST bandwagon. I can understand booting people for using 4 or 5 GB in a month on pre-paid. I can understand monitoring usage for things like tethering or even excessive streaming video...and punishing the abusers.

However, with ST, it seems like they'll boot users for mere casual usage of streaming media. IMO, that defeats the purpose of having a smartphone. For $45/month, I'd hope for more than just e-mail and Facebook access.

Anyone notice that it seems like everyone who complains about ST has never really used them? People like to claim that if you go over 100 MB/day or 2 GB/month your account will immediately get cancelled. That isn't necessarily true. As someone else mentioned, most (if not all) users are given a warning and when they don't curb their data use, they then get cancelled. Also, there have been numerous reports from people who have claimed to go well over these "limits" without any repercussions. I can't really say for sure what is or isn't real when it comes to reports about people's accounts being cancelled, but I do know I use data now just as much as I did when I was with VM (more so, considering my data speed isn't in the dialup range anymore) and I haven't received any warnings yet. I'm personally starting to think that this is all a case of a few reports from abusers being blown all out of proportion in the forums. Just sayin'...
