I am very disappointed.
We've had 4 phones on Verizon for a very long time... no data plans, texting for my daughter... I'm just sick of how much it costs. So, starting last fall I started reading forums about people getting the optimus, ditching the contracts and going wifi only. I plotted and schemed. I bought three optimus phones, paid to have them rooted and supped up. I got a number through Google Voice. I played around with the phones and read more forums. The day finally came when the contract on my phone was up. I waited one extra day just to be sure and ported my number to Google Voice. But it wasn't working right. I was missing calls like crazy. The line was spotty and full of static when I was able to make a call - and that was sitting at home next to the internet. I read more. I went and bought a mifi at Walmart and loaded. Took it for a spin. HORRIBLE reception, lag and cutting out! What the heck! Now what!?? Am I going to have to beg Verizon to take me back?? Cuz $10 on the family plan is cheaper than anything anywhere else. ARGH! I am sooooo disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've got three supped up Optimus phones... a mifi fully loaded with $45.... and can't make or receive calls without dropping them or giving up due to the very poor quality.
any advice???????????????????

If your talking about these materials not to worry. This is postpaid info.
Here's the version that supposoedly wil lbe available at third part retailers (note that it does not mention the $30 5GB plan):

What do you mean by "souped up" phones? There is not much you can do with an Optimus.
A lot has to do with your broadband as well when using VOIP. Just because you may have a fast data connection does not ensure smooth sailing.
Your home network could be prone to Jitter and Packet Loss which makes calling over the internet frustrating.
If you were happy with Verizon (but not its prices) have you looked into providers such as Page Plus?
Right, I agree.
Just stay tuned, I guess. There is a very real possibility that the $30 5GB could be leaving as it isn't mentioned in the leaked materials. The $30 1500 plan is mentioned, only briefly, and will not be advertised overtly.
I know there are potential defectors who read this thread, so that's why I thought I would mention it.
The plan would probably be grandfathered for those who have it already, I guess.
The thing with all these great cell phone deals is they come, they go and that's why we all have Google Voice numbers

I think I'm finally leaving VM. I'll keep my $25 plan active by adding $ every few months but I won't be using it regularly.
There are a few places where NV has kicked up 3G speeds to a good 1-2Mb/down even during peak times but so many places are still very slow. At home, I have an excellent signal from all the carriers, including Sprint, but I average 0.5Mb/down and 0.02Mb/up. I can't upload anything to drop box, send MMS, or post a pic to Instagram. In the middle of the night it works fine but once the day starts, it's all over.
I'm replacing my Elite with an iPhone 3GS on Airvoice. It's just an extra line for Craigslist (and other stuff I don't want my personal number associated with) so it will be much cheaper than VM anyway since I rarely used it.
I actually like Sprint but NV is taking too long. I also added a line to my family plan on T-Mo and picked up an iPhone 5. I had a 4S on VM for a few months and liked the phone, but Sprint's 3G was painfully slow in a lot of places.
