    LG200C versus _?

Hello, I have an LG200C, which seemed "ok" for a while. I then experimented with an R355C on Straight Talk, as I thought I really wanted the full keyboard, and mobile web, and mp3 player. I found that the larger screen was nice; the full keyboard was nice; but the web browser just too slow to bother, and the mp3 player too hard to use while driving. I suspect I'll get an iPod Touch or similar, as I'm just too cheap to have a real, full iPhone.

My question is, what would have good reception, be a flip phone, and have a full keyboard? Bluetooth might be nice, in case I get an iTouch and want to have all my phone numbers on that instead. I'm guessing I'm not going to get all that, but have to ask just the same. Backlit keyboard would be nice.

Ok, background: I talk like 10 minutes per month on my phone, I might send 5 texts. When I had my Straight Talk, I really didn't use it that much more than my Tracfone, which I had for years (first had a GSM which didn't work anywhere near home, then the last couple I had the LG200C). While I liked the R355C, the reality was it really didn't have a good spot on me--I had to make sure not to toss it into my pants pocket with my keys. So, I'm thinking flip. Has to be CDMA, Verizon is the only carrier in my area. Finally, I still have my LG200, it's sitting in front of me (just have to find the ac adapter). But the R355C went bye-bye, I managed to lose it somehow (plus, I don't feel like I was getting $30 of use out of it per month anyhow).

The more I think about it, the more I think I want an R355C again; the full keyboard and backlit keys outweigh the flip aspect. Camera, mp3 are nice but not must-haves. Just need to find a better spot to carry it... Still, before I jump, any recommendations?

    Thanks!

I suggest the LG 231c flip or LG 290c slider, both available on Tracfone. The R355c is only on Net10 which means a minimum of $15 per month. That is way too much if you only use 10 voice minutes plus a few texts per month.

Have you considered PagePlus? It is also Verizon based. $80 gets 2000 minutes for a year and you can extend for another year for $30. So $110 gets 2000 minutes for 2 years. I believe most PagePlus subscribers use Verizon postpaid phones which they pick up used, so you get a much better selection of phones than Trac or Net10 or even Straight Talk offers.

There is someone who just recently switched to PPC after a long history with Trac. I believe his userid is nasstar (double s) and his first name is Richard. He is a nice guy and posts in several forums, not just HoFo. Try contacting him via the PagePlus forum or PM him and ask him what he thinks. In fact there are probably many people in the PagePlus forum who used to be Trac and Net10 and they would probably have lots of suggestions for you.

Good luck. Hope it all works out.

Hmm, Page Plus, ok I remember hearing about them when I was looking at Straight Talk, a year or so ago. Forgot all about them, thanks for the reminder. Actually, my wife is thinking of dropping Verizon for the reason--oddly enough, just today we were talking about that, and she said she only would if she could keep her phone and phone number. So she's going to look at PP. For me, hmm, I guess that raises the possibility of getting a decent smart phone but minus the dataplan which I don't need/want.

I will look into that, thanks!

She can always keep her phone number, no matter where she goes. And she can probably keep her phone if she is on Verizon postpaid, not prepaid, and if the 2-year contract is up. Best to check in at the PagePlus forum.

    Good luck to you both.

    Hi supton.

I just discovered I gave you an incorrect userid. It is actually nastarracer.

    How is your search coming?

Slowly. Been distracted by other stuff in life. I'm also trying to figure out "what do I want": iPhone, or Android--seems that I can get a smartphone w/o a dataplan, which would be nice. I only need basic voice and texts; when at home thought having a WiFi connection could be nice.

Update: went Tracphone. Was at Radioshack (for other things), and saw the LG501C. Looked close enough to my prior r355c; looks like I gave up mp3 player but I wasn't using it much anyhow. I don't think it's as nice as the 355, but it's close enough. Double minutes for life is nice too.

I wanted to get that smartphone, but in the end I suspect I'll be more happy with a lower cost iPod Touch (or similar), as the wife has one, and the kids will likely get their own in the near future (why be different?).

Oh, and the wife did switch to PPC. Will see how she likes that. Kept her old number, and her old phone.
